    Posted: 07/20/2014 at 10:31am
I've seen in some forums that there are differences in playing characteristics between the red dhs neo rubbers and black dhs neo rubbers? Like some are faster than the other color, etc.

Is this true?

yes there are. For instance, most people find black hurricane 3 to be more grippy.
This doesn't just apply to dhs rubbers. Butterfly tenergys too have differences between the 2 colors.

So the black rubbers of DHS neo line is much tackier or has much more grip than their red counterpart?

The spin generated from a piece of black H3 neo is believed to be heavier. Not machine tested , therefore no exact answer. i personally feel it is tackier.

According to science, the rubber mixture for black and red is not the same.
Obviously the coloring agent is different, but there are more differences.
I can imagine that they won't end up producing the same playing result.

Why should there be more differences other than the coloring agent?  From a cost of manufacturing point of view it would be much cheaper to have them identical except for the coloring agent.

Its the Color Dye: for most the red is faster and the black is tacky.

I don't use red Chinese tacky rubbers so I haven't experienced it. But I have heard from friends that there is a slight difference between the red and black rubbers.

From experience, red topsheets are usually a bit harder than black ones

Chinese rubbers are not known for their consistency.  Even if you pick two rubber with the same color/thickness/hardness/... and put on the same blade, you can usually tell which one is which.  Sometimes, same rubbers from different batches not only play differently, but also look different (variations in sponge color, top sheet sheen, ...).  I used to play with same rubber on both side.  I preferred the one that sounded louder on the FH side.  It's usually red, but not always.

Thank you. Indeed, I do experience tackier DHS H3 Nero in Black than red. Thought the red one may be a fake. Now I see.
