Let's share information about which table tennis events (all the events
around the world) have used or will use new plastic balls (both seamless
and seamed). As ITTF has announced that as of July 1st, 2014, all ITTF
sanctioned events shall use plastic balls instead of celluloid balls.
Now nearly 4 months has passed, I was wondering if the world are
carrying out the order? What about those not ITTF sanctioned events? Are
they still using celluloid balls?
As far as I know, the recent women's World Cup used seamed plastic balls, the brand is unknown. 2014 China super League used two-toned plastic ball made by DHS. |

For the just concluded 2014 Women's World Cup it used: DHS 40+ (white) Balls.
For the upcoming 2014 Men's World Cup, same balls, as shown above, will be used. |

I will be curious to see if there are any events that will use something other than DHS, since they have some sort of deal with ITTF. I am very much hoping we will see more matches with Nittaku Premium, I think it will give us better play.

Just for the curiosity, I went back to check these ITTF sanctioned tournaments:
Belarus Open Czech Open Argentina Open Belgium Open Brazil Open Women's World Cup Men's World Cup (upcoming, but the ball has been specified.) ===================== I was shocked, all of them use DHS 40+ (plastic) White balls. No other brand has been used. I don't know why.

That will be 9 events in a row, using DHS 40+ *** white balls. Belarus Open Czech Open Argentina Open Belgium Open Brazil Open Women's World Cup Men's World Cup (upcoming, but the ball has been specified.) Swedish Open. (upcoming, but the ball has been specified.) Airports of Regions Russian Open. (upcoming, but the ball has been specified.) Edited by skip3119 - 10/23/2014 at 9:52am |

DreiZ guessed it right in that there must be some kind of contract - the ball manufacturer that can cough up more money wins the contract with ITTF.
DHS won the contract for the ITTF sanctioned regular events (World Tour & World Cup). Butterfly won the contract for the ITTF sanctioned J & C events. |

Norway is using the polyball for all national leagues, and for all competitions "owned" by the national association (national championships, the grand prix-tournaments). Until now it has been only the top events, but from january it will be all levels. The technical arrangement is in most cases left to the home club. They can use any brand they want to as long it is an approved poly ball, and they do! For the national championships it will probably be the new Stiga Optimum (NA sponsor deal).
Some regional events will probably still use their last boxes of celluloid-balls this spring.
