A friend added honey on his Tenergy rubbers in order to make it more spinny.  I told him to simply replace them, but he didn't want to.  Will honey actually ruin the topsheet?  Is there another alternative that he can use to "boost" his Tenergy rubbers instead?  Are Tenergy "boostable"?

His Tenergy has about 60% life remaining.  He doesn't know much about equipments, so he just followed his friend's advice of applying honey on the topsheet, in order to make it sticky since honey is known for its stickiness.  No rocket science stuff, just simple deduction.  Though I'm not sure if that's a logical deduction or not.

Yes... Let's ruin the ball, the table, your hands... And then have fun later cleaning up the sticky mess.

On the other note... Does he want ants?... Cause that's how you get ants...

On a serious note, honey (raw honey) does not age, it won't absorb into the top sheet unlike various oils. The stupidity is mind boggling...

Honey? No. Bee wax? Yes, that does make some sense to try.

i've seen some guys use cooking oil on the topsheet too (they said when it dries out, it very sticky). I'm not really sure about that but OMG...what the world become into? Question

is it because Butterfly rubbers are too expensive nowaday? LOL LOL

WTF. Whatever next? If we're at the stage where we're just slapping on random stuff from Boots, I might give this a try:

I think we're missing the point here.

One of the main ingredients in honey is hydroxymethylfurfural; its chemical composition is represented as

Tenergy, on the other hand, is a synthetic rubber containing cis-1,4, which is the repeating unit of polybutadiene:

When a single hydroxymethylfurfural molecule combines with a prime number of polybutadiene molecules (for instance, eleven) the resultant substance is clearly a winner:  11-1.  This is primarily due to the increased sweet spot!

I didn't play with my friend's honey-ed up paddle, but the incoming shots did feel much faster and slightly more spinny.  So it seems to me that it worked afterall.

I know a guy that uses wd-40 on his top sheet. I have to say he showed me a sheet of mark V that was 2 years old and it looked brand new.

I have heard of players using soda pop on the top sheet back in the 70's when none of the topsheets were very sticky. They say it actually worked. The soda pop was allowed to dry on the rubber so it was not transmitted to the ball. After an hour or so clean the rubber with water and reapply the soda.
