Didn't expect this matchup given Fukuhara has just recovered from a spinal injury(stress fracture).

Fukuhara didn't seem bothered by the new ball.  If anything, she actually played better than expected.

Imagine Mizutani had hired Qiu Jianxin 5 years earlier.

Some weeks ago, Wang Xi destroyed Achanta in the Bundesliga match ; Düsseldorf-Fulda and Achanta really seemed not be good at all when playing defensive players and then (of course at home) he managed to beat Joo....weird sport....

As you pointed out, the home cooking and crowd support helped.  Don't underestimate it.

FZD lost 3:4 to XX after leading 3:1. FZD seems not able to win any big event if any of ML, ZJK, or XX is there.

Chinese national champion not big enough for you? And at his age? Give the kid a break. Can you list these big events that he has lost?

Even china TV did not broadcast chinese national champion games.  FZD won several tour events, but most of them none of XX, ML, or ZJK was there.  It appears that he was figured out by these experienced players at some point.

If FZD can not win the Olympic next year, then he will be 23 if he wins in 2020. That is not specially young at all. With all the recent games he played, he might not be selected for the singles for the Olympic next year.  He can only redeem himself if he can go to the final for the coming WTTC. But with XX, ZJK, and ML there, I doubt he can do it easily.

Kindof99,

I don't know what you feel about table tennis but when I watch the top Chinese players in the top 4, I feel that any of them can best the other on any given day. We can be 95% certain that FZD will play the World Cup anyway. And no one has two Olympic golds so winning one at 23 is more than special.
