A great win there. Some close games but he pulled it out.

It's interesting to see Shanghai to field two penholders.

Hao Shuai in bad form, that's all that was.

I read he was 17 last year. So I guess he is about 18 now.
I think he beat Zhang Jike last year.

Yes, I agree with you. His RPB is truly excellent in all technical aspects.

And unlike Wong Chun Ting, Zhao Zihao has a great forehand too. Not as good as Xu Xin but good enough.

This is a pretty good angle to see the technique...
He came from match point down against Zhang Jike here. Zhao Zihao is mentally strong too.

Well I think his FH is different. He does not back up nearly as much as XX, which is needed for XX's FH, which mean more CHs and short stroke FHs. He stays at the table and does more counter driving then out right looping. I think the quality of shot is similar just different shots because of where they like to play from. I agree 100% about his mental game.

I don't think Hao Shuai had an off day as much as ZZ is that good.

BTW that camera angle is really good. Normally you can't really see how much work is going on with the in and out footwork. But you can really see how much effort is put out in that directional plane.

Yeah, I agree.

Hao Shuai didn't play bad, didn't play great. Zhao Zihao was simply playing above Hao Shuai's level.

The end of the 4th set to the end of the match are priceless to watch.  This is why you don't want to mess with a chopper with a forehand.

Thanks to Janus700.

Surprised that Fan Shengpeng could give problems to  Dimitrij Ovtcharov.
On World Stage, Fan is nobody while Dima is consistently in top 10.

Don't forget that Fan Shengpeng barely have the possibilities to express himself in international tournaments...
Look at the young Wang Chuqin who demolished Ovcharov.......and all these players who I haven't heard anything about and who are able to defeat Fang Bo, Hao Shuai, Chuan Chi Yuan.......

If you are not among the 5 or 6 "best" Chinese players...no possibilities to play outside China and if you have, by luck, 1 chance, you have so much pressure on your shoulders because you know it is your only chance....
If Fan Shengpeng becomes Austrian or Hungarian....and plays in all tournaments, no doubt he will be in the top 10.

The one LGL mentioned with bigger RPB than young WH is Xue Fei.

Sold in slavery. Poor Zhang Jike. Playing for summer blessed days all along is a carnal slavery, is it not?    Summer days is when people would take all the amenities of life, sunshine, nude girls, icecream and so on/

(I did watch one but Dima won easily.)
-------------------------------
Update:  Found that match video where the young player Wang Chuqin beat Dima. Wang won but I wouldn't call it that he demolished Dima.

Very impressive play by Wang Chuqin.
Wang Chuqin is very young, may be 17 years old. Very powerful BH. He lacks accuracy in his attacks, if he improves on that - he could be in top 50. (Dima is inside top 10 for quite a while, yet Wang beat Dima.)

Move the slider to the time of 1:55:00.
