Not sure whether Dan commented but he is my favorite commentator of all time. If Dan is commentating a match, I will watch it just because Dan is so lucidly opinionated about everything and you learn a lot listening to high level opinion in this sport. He is also mentally quick so he predicts the serve, calls the spin when executed sometimes and even calls the mistaken response. I can watch replays of anything Dan commentated just for fun.
I think Adam is good, but the post hoc insight is not as entertaining and is along the lines of what I would have said. With Dan, you are actually building the match strategy. I prefer it when Dan works alone. I think it was more Corey Eider that worked with Sean on the matches I watched. But Tue bottom line is that I prefer it and learn more when the players are criticized. Keeps me engaged as a TT player. Edited by NextLevel - 07/16/2015 at 12:02pm |

Is it just me or does anybody else find Dan and Sean's commentary to be extremely bad and annoying.
I have a lot of respect for them and they have lots of experience as coaches and as players, but it always seemed like they are trying to show off their table tennis knowledge and critiquing the players. The biggest example that came to mind was when one of commentators was saying how Crisan should have called a timeout in the final game by saying "Timeout....timeout.....timeout....should have called it at 6-3". I was cringing inside. I really feel they try to get way to technical. That coupled with the fact that their voices really just aren't great for commentating. In contrast I feel Adam does a great job when commentating. He does great play by play and knows enough of the game to throw some technical knowledge here and there rather than continuously commenting on what went wrong or what a player should have done. Anyway, congrats to Wang Jinxin. I saw him at the Berkeley Open and got demolished by Zhang Xiang Jing. Would never expected him to win the US Open.

There's a neat feature on the US Open registration page.
http://register.usatt.org/tournaments/listentries.php
When you list entries, you can click on the id#, then click on the event, and it displays the part of the draw of that player. So for example if you want to find Tao Wenzhang's results, click on his id# and then click on men's 64th's to find that he lost to Kohei Morimoto. Edited by heavyspin - 07/14/2015 at 11:14am |

[QUOTE=kenneyy88]Where can I see the draw w/ results?[/QUOTE
It's at the usatt.org website under events. On the right you'll see 2015 Open. Click it and scroll down until you see online entry. Go there and you'll see results. I think under summary You'll get all the draws, etc. for each event. |

Smaller court or not, the venue for the finals seemed to have a nice atmosphere. You could sense that fans were present. On one hand I wish I had been there. On the other, I just lost my first 20lbs on Weight Watchers (just 6 more to go) and it would have been a shame to gain it all back in 3 or 4 trips to the buffet.

Length seems okay to me but width-wise, it's almost the same as my ping pong room, which I don't think is adequate for high level competition. I know my room is a bit too narrow for counter looping drills.

It is 5* of course, but where do you see the 23x46 requirement? As far as I can tell, court size requirements are the same for "3 and up"; larger courts just give more points. |

The width was certainly not 23 ft - that would mean 9 ft on each side of the table (which is 5 ft wide). But the USATT requirement actually seems to be 19x38 for feature matches for *** and up. And the Omnia court probably was just about 19 ft wide. Notice that they put the scorekeeper outside of the court. |

Sorry, but I did not find the casino settings that great. I would prefer to see conditions where both /all the players feel comfortable about the area, the lighting, etc. But this world is not ideal...

Watched both finals. Good matches, great settings. That's the way to watch TT up-close and personal. I wish I was there, maybe next year. The court did look smaller, but if it's within the regulations then it's fine. ITTF handbook said it should be 7m by 14m minimum. USATT requires 23x46 courts for feature matches, by the way it's the same size

Didn't watch the WS final, but that court was definitely smaller than it has ever been before

One of the choppers did reach the final, and she lost. I was wondering about court size too - does someone know the precise dimensions? As for the back of the court being dark, Dan Seemiller said that was an "optical illusion" and that visibility for the players was excellent. |

Do you have the YouTube app? Streaming is very smooth on mobile through the app, but not so good if you're going directly from the browser. The court looked constrained, if one of the choppers have made it there could have been complaints. Looked dark as well.
