You didn't answer the question. Do the composites count as plies or not?

General consensus from TTDB is the following composite blades are in the "crazy fast" category with no more that 5 wood plies, I've omitted some other blades which simply did not have a large enough sample size for their speed ratings to mean much (mostly Joola blades):

DHS Hurricane Long 5
Donic Ovtcharov Carbospeed
Xiom Hayabusa ZXi
Stiga CC7
Butterfly Amultart ZL Carbon
Xiom Strato
Butterfly Schlager Carbon
Yinhe T4

Thin extremely fast blades are usually without feeling and contain titanium. Most fast blades are going to be thick for a reason. Is it the thickness or the number of plies that is the issue? I know at least one thin fast blade but it is not a 5 ply.

For sure but with 6 wood plies and 3 carbon ones I think it will end up being much thicker than OP wants.

It could be 7 ply but thin , as long as it's not as thick as photino or Amultart .

There is no "fastest blade". Those that are presented as fast, have high speed on counter hits and smashes but are not fast enough on loopings against underspin.

T11 is extremely fast and super light (68grams) but thick (7mm) due to the balsa core.
FS:
Xiom Vega Pro ST 85 grams $80 shipped
Donic Waldner Senso Carbo JO shaped ST $40 shipped

The Donic Waldner Black Devil is a pretty fast blade outside butterfly range and very light as it has balsa wood layers. It's a little lacking in feeling for some players but lightweight and quick.

My Hayabusa zxi definitely feels a pretty much faster than the black devil on all out drives. Tho the black devil might have a slight advantage on pure flat hits. And yeah it definitely does lack feeling :P
