Why don't you test it and write a report? Do you think anybody is going to translate an 8 minute long YouTube video? |

It's not like you don't have the rubber and you're deciding to buy or not.
Why don't you just put the rubber on and try it. I also happen to order one sheet of this rubber and I plan to put it on the Yinhe PD437.

Sorry if we came across too pushy. That was not my intention and I did not mean you have to test it today either! I just think it is better to test a rubber yourself than to see what some professional does with it. That Japanese dude would make a $5 Friendship rubber look great too. |

My Japanese isn't great, but I will give it a try.
"Fast and easy is the main message. Drive is super fast for a Chinese rubber. Flick is good. Looping underspin is effortless. Out-of-position shots are good, unlike other Chinese rubbers. People who like tacky rubbers should try it." I hope this helps. However, I doubt how much they said was true... |

It is like a cross between haifu and hurricane 3. Hard sponge and medium soft topsheet. It is very tacky. Spin is like hurricane 3 comercial. It is faster than the commercial h3.

In Europe somebody sells it on EBay but I don't know if they ship to the US. Otherwise, you can contact Sanwei directly through the email on their website; that's what I did. |

Got a sheet of this a few weeks ago and had a session with it.
First thing - my sheet isn't perfect. The sponge has a few pits, and the topsheet has some lumpy bits - not quite bubbles, but close. A determined tournament official would probably disqualify the rubber for not being totally flat. That aside, it's an interesting rubber. The topsheet is semi-tacky (lifts a ball for half a second), thin, very soft and pliable. The sponge is porous and medium-hard. There is a slight dome, so some signs of a factory boost, but no particular smell. Close-in control is excellent, spin on serves is very high, and it's very easy to keep the ball short. It has a far more elastic feel than old, traditional chinese rubbers for sure, and the medium gears are great for controlled looping and general topspin from over the table or medium distance. It lacks speed in the high gears, so blade selection is important if you play from distance (or you could boost it some more I suppose). The arc is a solid medium and feels very stable - I felt that counterlooping was particularly good, with a very safe feeling. In terms of gearing, the lower tack on the topsheet helps to avoid the feeling of the ball holding up too much on most shots, but the general lack of bounce means you have to put more forward motion into flicks and punches when dealing with slower balls. This is a common problem with these types of rubber (H3-50, Big Dipper, etc have the same kind of response), but STN does respond well when transitioning to more of a brush from a flat shot so you get far less off/on gearing. I liked it a lot. QC is a bit of a worry at this point, so I might buy another sheet and see how that compares. It feels like an evolution of the hybrid approach seen on Big Dipper - modern, porous sponge with a semi-tacky topsheet. There are a lot of these types of rubber on the market now, but this is one of the better ones. This one does feel higher quality than, say, Big Dipper overall - a more complete package, better general feel (very smooth with less cheap, junky feel). It feels closer to Rising Dragon than Big Dipper in reality, but the topsheet is softer and more flexible than both. I know people want to compare to boosted H3N, but I actually feel that STN is closer to a mildly boosted Skyline TG3 Neo 38 degree.

Yeah, that's a good way of describing it. The performance of these types of rubber seems to be increasing. Just have to see what the QC is like now. Has anyone tried a few sheets yet?

My two main concerns are weight and how long the boosting lasts. If someone could report on that it'd be fantastic :)
To compare, my H3N boosted 5 layers played amazing for the first 3-4 hours, then was rubbish again. |

I have a black one which I believe they only have one configuration of thickness and hardness, it is 63.8g uncut, it does come in with a odd shape (like those Xiom rubbers). I am too lazy to measure the size of the trapezoid at the time calculate the density.

AndySmith, what blade did U use to test it?
I play Target Commercial (grey sponge) on some Chinese ALC (Viscaria-like, but a little thicker - 6.1mm, thus stiffer and faster). Target successfully 'tames' this fast blade and favors for spinny loops ZJK-style, but U can also loopkill with it. Short game is mediocre because the blade is very fast. Target comm. becomes unreliable when looping against a very heavy defensive chop or counterlooping a heavy opening loop. When I exert max power to spin the ball, it can become somewhat mushy and create poor spin. H3Neo is more powerful and reliable on high-power shots. |

I went with my usual Crest AR+. I've got a second sheet now (no blemishes anywhere, so that's a good sign), and I'll be putting that on another blade soon. Viscaria or Virtuoso CRWi probably.
I haven't used the commercial version I can't compare them really. The sponge is good quality but nowhere near as hard as H3N so it definitely suffers in comparison when loop-killing with a full stroke. I think it plays better in many other ways though.

I vote for Viscaria
Target is more controllable on touch shots and loops 'with topsheet only' over the table or just near the end of the table. It has longer dwell and U get more spin and arc. H3N 38 degrees or 39 softened up with oil will be almost identical in dwell and control, but better at power shots and counterlooping. Maybe Target Nat is just like this.

OK, Viscaria it is! I want to test Vega Europe DF on a harder blade anyway, so this works out well for me. I really liked the way STN counterlooped, and the feel is very close to a boosted H3 38, but I think it still lacks the power for put aways. It suits me fine though - rock solid when close-up, effective countering when pushed away, good variable looping everywhere else. I can live without a blistering 3rd ball game these days. It's quite light too - 57g uncut (although the uncut shape isn't a square). I put the VE-DF and STN onto an 86g Viscaria and the final setup weight is 175g.
