Tenergy has gone from $85 to $99 in Australia, has it risen anywhere else?

Yes that's me. I think the price is comparatively worse for Americans because the minimum wage in America is $7.25 an hour and in Australia it's $17.70 I guess it probably all evens out in the end.

If you want to do this type of comparison, probably should look at median income or something like that - doubt it is 2X in AU.

The median price is a completely unrealistic way to measure anything. I don't know anybody that makes the median wage but I know plenty that make the minimum wage.

Hmmm, it might be payback for this little video I made last year... ;)
EDIT: The bit about calling it Tenergy 105 because that's what they charge for it doesn't seem quite as funny now, I bet! Edited by DTopSpirit - 08/09/2016 at 3:16am |

1.4 mil VND here, which is about 82 dollars in Australia or 62 in the US.
Last time I checked a few months ago it was 1.3mil so seems to be going up here as well but not as steeply. I was told that all Butterfly stuff is going to go up significantly worldwide because of changes to the value of the Yen.

This one data point tells us more where you and your friends are on the income distribution, but not necessary about purchasing power of entire population. Unless you are telling us that main market for Tenergy is people earning minimal wage, which does not bode well for Butterfly.

The median wage isn't a true indication of purchasing power. Maybe minimum wage earners shouldn't play table tennis maybe it should be restricted to the middle and upper classes. The fact is you have a minimum wage and we have a minimum wage it's a fair and real comparison, it's not skewed like the median wage.

That's a ridiculous price for Canada, from what I've seen Canada is overcharged for a lot of stuff compared to the USA.

Please tell us a bit more why you believe median statistic is skewed ('me and my friends don't make that much money' does not count, these metrics describe population, not you specifically). If I am not mistaken median is widely used because it's a much more robust metric compared to average (and obviously min and max) which are strongly affected by long tails and outliers. The argument you probably should be making: "buyers of TT equipment tend to have lower incomes compared to typical household in AU (may be it is true, may be it is not, I don't have data), therefore BTY's decision to increase prices of Tenergy is misguided". Anyway, it is getting somewhat offtopic, since I never implied who should and should not play TT.

We have a WAB store in a local club but only club members are allowed to buy at those prices If you're a competition player n0n-national and you damage your rubbers or your racket doesn't qualify for the tournament good luck if you don't have back ups... We are not going to agree, I don't need to have an argument with you. Tonight is actually census night in Australia where they work all that out. Do you think Tenergy is fairly priced?

What does WAB mean? Stores are called shops here. Sneakers are called runners in Melbourne but they're called trainers in Sydney. Flip flops are called thongs, Fanny packs are called bum bags because fanny is slang for vagina here.

I don't know - Butterfly sets prices with a specific goals in mind (let's say profit maximization). If new prices generate more profit for them, then yes, it is fairly priced, since enough customers decided it was worth paying for it. If on the other hand everyone in the market decided to switch to competitor's offering because they thought Tenergy became overpriced for what it is, then Butterfly made a mistake. To use car analogy: is BMW 740 fairly priced? It sure costs more than Toyota Camry... Full disclosure: I never used Tenergy and don't feel a need to do it, since it probably won't change my level much. May be will try at some point, but right now I'm definitely not impacted by their pricing, for what it's worth. |

Tenergy price in Australia had been set low for some time. It was AU$79 a year ago and only pump up to AU$85 after Japan raise their local price by more than 50%. If you convert JPY direct to AUD then a piece of Tenergy should cost over AUD100. I believe the low price was set when Aussie dollars were high and in parity with US$ but slow to adjust when Aussie dollar drop more than 25% since. If you check their official site then you know their list price of Tenergy is always AUD99 but discount price had been applied for years until now. They just scratch the discount and everything back to normal. Edited by TurboZ - 08/09/2016 at 11:41am |

Cheers Greg, Your take on Butterfly and Tenergy. And I learned that their R & D Will be replaced by members of MYTT. Which should be good For you and me, As they know a lot About Tt. And I hope, as do we all, With deepest feeling Their prices won't anymore Go through the ceiling. (Yeah right)

Butterfly Australia buys in Yen. and AUD/Yen exchange rate has dropped a lot in recent times, about 10% in only the last couple of months (just after brexit), so that would be why they increased the price. |

I am a long time Tenergy 05 user now using MX-P. My level is exactly the same after a week of adjustment. Half the price per sheet. It doesn't last as long but still a lot cheaper when I can get 3 for 4 deals.
Btfly makes good stuff but their pricing is a weird marketing strategy. |

I doubt that Tenergy costs twice as much to make as Sriver yet Sriver is $55 and Tenergy is $100.

May be coincidence but I see they have just replaced their photos on ebay with the new Tenergy packages along with the price rise to AUD99. New stock with new revised pricing perhaps.

Don't get me wrong I'm not complaining about Butterfly Australia, I doubt that that they have much choice when it comes to pricing. I'm complaining about Butterfly Japan and Butterfly Europe. I think that they have decided to share all the markets between them and taken away our right to get a better deal or the equipment we want. If a piece of equipment isn't available in one country then we should be able to get it from another. The Primorac is a good example, the European version needs sealing the Japanese version doesn't but you don't get a choice of which one you can get in most countries. Butterfly have raised their prices but reduced the quality of some blades. Butterfly blades were good because of the Japanese quality control but now they make a lot of them in China and Europe. I was told that Butterfly has a long and proud history, they might have once but now they are destroying their own reputation and ruining what was a once great brand. If I worked at Butterfly I would pray every night that no one comes up with a better rubber than Tenergy because I think that any loyalty customers once felt towards the brand has been thrown away by the company itself.
