    Posted: 04/20/2018 at 10:09pm
I have found one of the legendary unicorns. I have recently received this blade from one of my very first coaches. He is in his 80s now and still teaches juniors at one of our local clubs in NYC. I mentioned to him i was looking for older clippers and the rest was history.

Stellan Bengstsson 9 Ply Clipper from the late 80s or early 90s. Untouched like it was out of the factory yesterday.
Handle is straight and has the classic Stiga curved thumb area. Handle feels thick but strangely very comfortable.
Weight is a whopping 106 grams
Thickness is 6.6 to 6.7mm

Here are some of my pics. I am no photographer. Enjoy

In case people wonder, the groove marks on the side are from the water-jet cutting, which is not used anymore.

More pix.
Viscaria FL - 91g
+ Neo H3 2.15 Blk - 44.5g(55.3g uncut bare)
+ Hexer HD 2.1 Red - 49.3g(68.5g 〃 〃)
= 184.8g

I did find the groove marks very unusual. I never knew that older Stiga blades were made using the water jet cutting method. Thanks for the information. Smile

One more thing. This blade was made at the old Stiga factory in Tranås, Hålaveds trä to be precise, before it was bought out by Bengt Bandstigen.

That is a beauty indeed! I have some cheapos from that era. Stiga premades with Yasaka rubbers, red on both side. They are all brand new but I am sure worthless because they are premades and not professional blades.

Thanks for the compliments. Anything from that era is still ought to be preserved and they still hold some great memories for us Table Tennis players. Smile

I am honored to be the new owner of this wonderful “unicorn”, holy grail, or as I like to simply call it... my dream paddle - this beautiful and rare Stiga Stellan Bengtsson 9-ply Clipper in new condition.

I fell in love with the Stellan-style straight handle with the thumb grind area while hitting with my current blade - Stiga Stellan Bengtsson Metal Wood, so I’m excited to start hitting with this 9-ply Clipper for my competition play. Comfortable handle is a must for me, given my Parkinson’s.

My thanks to 42andbackpains for selling this gem to me. I will post up pics along with my other recent rare acquisitions in my collection once the Clipper arrives next week. 🙂🙏🏼
