Current set-up: Stiga Allround Classic, FH: Vega Europe 1.8, BH: Mark V max,
using FH-oriented grip (thumb not touching the rubber, easy to close
the angle on FH and harder on BH). Blades also available:
Stiga: Defensive NCT, Allround NCT, Offensive Classic Carbon; Yinhe: T11+.

Objective: long rallies from mid-distance (not points). Achieved, barely
(cannot control the speed if closer to the table, or FH counterhit decently without FH grip).

Issue: closing the blade angle on BH and snapping the wrist gives shoulder
and wrist discomfort. Scared to continue current counter-hitting on BH.

Proposed solution: replace Mark V by rubber that allows BH hits with open
blade and locked wrist. Of-course, lack of topspin will make it harder to
clear the net, but maybe I can master the flatter hits. Not trying to chop.

Rubber ideas? Thanks!

i think soft sponged tensors like energy x tra vega elite impuls speed and f3 bigslam would be suitable for this

Thanks, Skyline - I shall try Stiga Calibra Tour S which I already have.
I was researching more extreme solutions, such as Gambler Reflectoid or pips.

I am not so familiar with the Calibra Tour S only with the LT Spin, I'm not sure if the rubber is bouncy enough to work for mid distance flat hitting. As for Reflectoid or pips, they are effective in close to the table flat hitting, but they will be to slow for mid distance flat hitting, your shots will have no pace and will be easily killed.

my suggestion is to try the vega europe 1.8 on the backhand (just flip your bat around)

It sounds to me like you need to work on hitting the strokes properly, and possibly changing your goals.

after reading your post more carefully I would suggest a non spinny inverted rubber, calibra sounds quite good for your purpose. I know a guy that uses Nittaku Magic Carbon very succesfully with that kind of stroke also.

For this purpose I loved the Calibra LT and now the Rozena, the difference being that the Rozena ads more layers of control and spin while sacrificing some pop.

An update: Stiga Calibra Tour S, soft, very bouncy, not spiny, worked well today while practicing with my hitting partners. On Stiga Allround NCT, my BH drives (some would say passive blocks) have good pace and some topspin to clear the net. Vega Europe (and I would also assume, Rozena of other spinier rubbers) requires more of a lifting motion, something I am trying to avoid. Thanks all!

Serve return is bad, but this is a trade-off I am willing to make so that the better club players agree to hit with me. I'll see how that works out on Friday.
