when the incentive to become olympic champion fades away the only real reason to train is to try new material.
how do you get past this?

Pick a fancy new shot to learn like the French flick strawberry or a chop block.

If you don't like training then just play. Lots of people (most people) only play matches. It's not a sin.

I'll make it more simple.
The only thing powerful enough to move me out of my couch, make me travel to the club and make me play the whole session.... is if I have new material in my hands.

I am training for the the US National O100 championship. Only 35 yrs left so I have to work hard. If I can just hold my level of play it my be just long enough for Danny Seemiller's level to drop to where I have a chance.

I am not lazy to go to the club and play.   BUT having new equipment usually makes me more eager and motivated. 😁

The Newgy 2050 is much better, it does not start accusing me me to boost my rubbers as soon as I lead the score, it does not whine about my legal serves, it does not complain about my warm up skills for the whole 2 minutes, it does not spit on the floor to make it stickier, it does not put a shoe on the table to fix its laces, it does not answer the phone in the middle of training, it does not look condescending when I execute a great sequence, it does not think it is a better tt robot than it actually is.

A silent no nonsense human practice partner is hard to find and hard to keep; still looking, wish me luck.

this is gold

Guys maybe the OP is Zhang Jike in disguise coz he's already got the Olympic Gold Medal hence the statement "when the incentive to become Olympic champion fades away"....

“It does not put a shoe on the table to fix its laces & it does not answer the phone in the middle of training” I wonder who that is in reference to! Lol
