I am interested on some feedback to my latest thought on serve technique.

My coach has a pro serve that is very spiny, fast and double bounces. The whip action is very short, fast and hard to read.

Obviously, for a quality serve you need very fast racket speed from your wrist action. My coach has been teaching me to delay the backswing as long as possible and go fast into the backswing against the body motion going forward. Just like the same mechanics in using a towel in a whip action.

My new thought is that you really need to engage into the rubber to increase the spin level and make the serve fast.

I think this is from both the body going forward in the forehand serve and the whole arm going forward at the point of ball contact.

Many club players can do a slow very spinny serve. However to do a serve that has the combination of high spin and forward speed is missing from all the club players I play against. (lowish level)

Thoughts?
