The best penhold is preference really, but the most popular one is probably the malin carbon/gatien carbon.

The Yasaka Extra (non carbon) is probably the most used Chinese penhold blade by those who use the reverse backhand.

If he plays one sided or with pips he may want a harder and heavier blade.

Depending on whether or not he uses the RPB the optimal blades are YE for RPB and Clipper Wood for non-RPB.

I have a w6 cpen which is a virtual copy of YE. But most consider it too hard to generate power with YE unless you've got Ma Lin's arm and speed glue budget. If you can do it, you're still likely to be freaking tired at the end of a tournament day.

I've got a dawei navigator penhold that I think seems a lot like clipper. Same types of wood, simlar speed and feel. I think it would play great in pen, as pens tend to prefer a faster stiffer blade on average vs shakehanders.

I've been told by people I trust that for rpb, yasaka has the best shape in their penhold line.

It is not the dipper blade, it is call the DHS wang hao blade. The darker spots you see near the handle are just dirty marks left from my fingers. the edges around the face are close to new. I am interested in trading this for a new sheet of Stiga neos sound in black as well.

timtex37,
you still selling the wang hao blade for 30 US (I don't have the rubbers you want for trade)? One question though, are you a lefty? It seems that the sanding job you did on the blade is for a lefty. Let me know. Thanks.

Hi, I am interested in Xiom Targa 2. Please tell me whether it is fast (comparable to Schlager Carbon, Sardius ?) and what is the feel, medium or hard. Thanks

Well, I'm no penholder. I can tell you that it has the same outer plies of very high grade limba. I can tell you it's fast with a hair of flex but not much. I can tell you it's pretty with excellent craftsmanship for a chinese blade, esp a dawei blade. I can tell you the shakehand ones are a little too heavy at 92g or so. But someone else is gonna have to tell us how it plays in penhold.

But Im sure it's not what that guy wants for a beginning penhold! From my stock, I would recommend the galaxy 896. W6 if he has the scratch.
