    Posted: 06/16/2007 at 9:28pm

Most of the Japanese penholders use a one ply cypress to generate outstanding power, so why is there no 1 ply cypress on the market for shakehanders?

Would it be too light or too heavy? too expensive?
I remember there used to be a one ply cypress shakehands blade made by butterfly or Yasaka years ago but I wonder why theres none commonly available fom any of the major brands.

Can one of you blade experts tell me how would a 1 ply cypress play?

Thanks

I just had a look at the Tibhar and it sure looks sweet!
They say its light and fast like I would expect.
I think I'm going to try one of these beauties.

I have a few of these Butterfly custom made 1-ply Hinoki shakehand blades, brand new and all unused.  I can sell you one, if you are interested.

Since most Japanese penholders use one side only, the blade can be very thick and heavy. It is more difficult to produce a nice thin lighter 1 ply shakehand that wont crack.

There are actually quite a few available. JUIC & Galaxy have them, and I'm sure I've seen a  few others too...

I think the one form juic seems to has a good value. Now, I'm kinda interested into trying one of these hinoki shakehand blades.I wonder what makes the huge difference in prices

I think the Galaxy one is called Kiso Hinoki... no I don't have one, and I don't think it's cheap either.... the JUIC one is quite nice and a lot cheaper than most...

I saw a Darker one in the shop yesterday and I know there was a Butterfly one up on the shelf as well.

In short I think there are MANY single ply cypress shake hand blades available, you just need to look for them or change the shop where you buy your equipment.

10 mm plus rubbers on both sides might be too thick for shakehand blade.
