I want to make a combo with a super duper spinney pips-in rubber on one side on a thin sponge (1.0mm or so). I want to keep it light. It will probably go on my Oversize.

What would you recommend?

It's mostly for serves!!!!!!!!!

This rules out DHS stuff as you can't buy without the sponge.

The old, old versions of 729 and 999. Maybe PF4 as well if you can still get the topsheets.

I'd say, get a 999 top sheet on a saviga from Cole. Saviga is decently light, plus you can choose thickness and hardness.
To tell you the truth, 999 generates more spin than the H3-p on serves.

If I could get the ol' PF4 topsheet and put it on a Tensor/Quattro sponge that might make for an interesting sheet.

I get very confused about the 999. It seems there are several companies that make a sheet called "999." I think I'll create a post.

i think people here meant 999 from Globe.

999, SP, H3, 729fx are all tacky rubbers.. in fact geospin tacky is probably tackiest.

but you are not going to serve and leave the table. Rubber choice depends on what you plan to do after the serve.

Above 1500 level, service alone can't on't win points, but may give you a weaker ball to build up attack.

I used to be rated 1500, then I took a break. Later I moved to China and played for 2 years there, moved to California and have been playing for 1 year here. I haven't entered a tournie for a long time! I don't know what my rating is, but I know I am better than I was; yet, I don't know what the competition is like these days. I often play/beat a guy who is 1350 and he says I would lose to another player he plays who is rated 2000. I might play that guy tomorrow. Who knows? Sometimes you match up good, sometimes bad. I'm good, but not great. :-). I do seem to play better when I play higher level players. I seem to rise or sink to the level of my opponent.

I would have to agree the pf4 is the tackiest/stickiest top sheet i had ever used. It is so sticky that it can suspend a ball while gravity pulls on it.
