mind if I ask, what is the advantage of hide glue over the regular gluing method? Everytime I see custom blades I read "hide glue" |

They use hide glue in high end furniture and instruments cause it does not set up hard as rock like epoxy so it leaves more "feeling" .So the plies interact with each other more so than epoxy

I got a feeling you will be very good at that as I have never seen a person SO into blades as you.
I think it's will be a great thing for you to do as an occupation as it is clearly something you love.....good luck with it ryno

Actually as woodworking projects go they are very easy.6 inch veneers are easy to come by I can get them from my local woodcraft .they also cary hide glue. 6 inch by 5/16 or 1/4 balsa sheets are easily found at any hobby store and there is a company that sells a manual vaccum bag for veneering i think it is like $50 from woodcraft. So then you just cut out the blanks on a band saw and sand them. The only trick is the handle but i have a router table.

Question on the outer plies : why you must choose birdeye ? any specific reason ? I think the reaction will be different when the ball hit the "eye" part or the surrounding area.

These are beautiful, I would love to try one of these.
I am tempted to try making blades myself. Ryno, is that thick center ply balsa? |
