if you know how to do a topspin serve then the only thing I can do is say I think light topspin is far more effective than heavy topspin because heavy topspin serves are very easy to see when recieving them, many people push a light topspin serve thinking it's light backspin which results in poping the ball up so you can 3rd ball attack

I do a light topspin pendulum and it pops up just a little from their push and I can flip it for a winner. Usually I have to do a few of backspins before I can do it though, so they don't see it.

If you're good, then you must try serving to look as if you are serving downspin.

that was kind of what i was about to say and i think that is good advice

Also try and use the same wrist/arm action for topspin serve and your backspin serve ti is hard but when you get it right it is very useful

hit the ball a bit later on the upward part of the wrist snap, many times you will get a bit of sidespin with the topspin,it's VERY hard not to get a bit of sidespin on the ball if you do a similar motion to a backspin ball.
The same can be done with a BH serve

For my service, penhold forehand, I use the same motion for both backhand and forehand: snapping the wrist and elbow downward very quickly and then bringing it back up. Contact point determines whether or not the ball has sidespin towards the right or not.
However, I mix up the serves by serving up a topspin ball that is entirely opposite of my back-side ball by faking the downward snap and instead using my "return" motion to hit the ball. Since the whole thing happens so quickly, I can usually throw one in and expect a nice pop-up from the top-left spin ball.
The problem with topspin serves, as I see it, is that they are too easy to aggressively return. If I'm playing against someone and they have a very obvious topspin service, I'll attack the ball very quickly off the bounce with a quick deep flat hit.
In essence, its more useful as a secret weapon, because otherwise opponents will either smash or loop them back.

The pendulum stroke can product both side-underspin and side-topspin. If you make contact with the ball early in the pendulum (while the racket is going down) then you can create side-underspin. Make contact later in the swing (upward) and you get side-topspin.

If you can do this whole motion very quickly and maybe eliminate the follow-through by jerking the racket away after making contact, it can definitely confuse the opponent.

Do it close to the body as well, as close to the body as possible while not hiding the contact point. Watch a video of Chen Qi and mimic that. He has the best "hide" on serves. The contact point on his serves is probably like 4-5 inches from his left nipple.

not really noticed Chen's nipples that much, but I do know that when Biba serves her blades comes within 160mm from her right nipple.
         Maybe it's 162mm I can't quite remember :-)

Just to clarify, any reference to Chen's nipple is purely for the purpose of establishing location, that is all!
