Has anyone heard of anyone doing this in USA?

A friend in China said that some players at his club are "texturizing their" by putting the smooth topsheet face-down onto materials with various textures, then putting weight on top and letting it sit - pressurized overnight. The result is a textured pips-in that they claim has many benefits, including:
Increased grip, spin, control, etc.

I do not know about texturing, but a guy in a club I was before would use sand paper to create "texture" in his older flextra rubbers and that would create more spin. I do not know about control (and I do not see any reason why it should increase). Obviously something like that decreased the life span of the rubbers considerably, but of course they were already old.
