yeah, but that all depends on the shape of the handle.

actually, a friend of mine was playing with a two-sided j-pen handle (a nittaku sanalion, i believe) for a while.  he loved the handle, but didn't like the actual blade.

i think the main problem is that most j-pen players are not ready to adapt to the additional weight.  but also, there aren't that many (good) 2-sided j-pen blades out there either.

cpen players are faced with the same weight problem, but a lot of them have made the switch anyway, probably because they have examples of top players to follow.

so, you probably won't see jpen players doing it either until they see a top player do it first...

No offense intended but I think that besides ^this one^ the reasons for not using jpen for rpb are rubbish. I have a friend from japan going to school over here (would probably be rated around 2200-2300) and he has no problem using rpb when he wants. He uses short pips on the fh and has inverted on the rpb. Though he never really uses it just becuase his style is close to table quick attack and smash and he has superb footwork enabling him to use his powerful forehand most of the time.

I think It's more likely that jpen are shaped the way they are just simply because it's easier to build them that way and more efficient (circles waste so much space LOL)

On a side note I play cpen and have modified my grip as mentioned in an earlier post with cork on the FH which I would recommend to anyone who doesn't mind the bit of extra width. You can order natural cork sheets in 1/16" pretty easily and may even be able to find thinner cuts if you look. Very comfy and improves grip instantly.

I've also always had trouble with developing painful calluses on the knuckles of my middle finger since I don't like the bh rubber going all the way to the handle (I guess I sweat a lot and the rubber gets slick). So recently fixed this by attaching a piece of cork to the sponge of a rubber. All the cush of rubber + all the grip of cork = beautiful painfree play

Just though I'd share that in case anyone has middle finger pain like I did Wink.

I have a friend who used long pips as a RPB on his JPen. Gave him an extremely weird game though. Has any1 tried pips out for Cpen or Jpen?

good idea, i don't have a quality camera, just a 2mpxl cameraphone but i'll give it a shot.

*Edit*

Borrowed my roommates camera and uploaded some pics of my blade on a new thread since it doesn't really pertain to this topic: http://mytabletennis.net/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=22570&PN=1#263586

Actually my dad started using long pips! for rpb, but then switched to short pips.

Still good for countering strong spin and he can also use it to smash backhand balls! He uses Dawei 388B 1.0mm sponge.

He uses Kpen btw - round headed jpen.
