hey all, i've been using sriver l (or w/e the regular stuff is) on my forehand and backhand (both 2.1mm) on an off- blade (stiga offensive classic cr) for a few months now and i've gotten quite used to it, the thing is, im looking at sriver el to offer maybe a little more spin to my loops. I like to play a two winged looping game, but i'm also a pretty quick counterhitter close to the table, and i love to block loops. i guess im a pretty all around player. anyways, im worried that if i go to sriver el 2.1 on each side, or even max, i could lose some of the speed that i've gotten used to with sriver l. I dont want to change the speed of my game at all, but I would love to add more spin to my loops, while still being able to block. Do you think it would be wise to give sriver el a try?

Thanks

ps. i do not glue nor intend to in the future.

you won't lose much speed if you switch to Max and your loops would be a bit spinnier

  do you use glue?

if you don't glue use Mark V

hey so i've been thinking of going with mark v. i played with  it a little today on a faster blade and really liked the way it gripped into the ball and really sprung it with a lot of spin. question is, will i notice a decrease in speed with 2.0mm mark v compared to 2.1mm sriver? i've heard that sriver is a little faster. also, how is mark v up close on the table, especially when it comes to counterhitting. it seems like i could block a little easier with the mark v just because it held onto the ball a little longer, but i couldn't judge counterhitting because the blade was a little too fast for my liking.

Yes, EL is faster and feels more powerful when glued/tuned. Counterlooping is better. But I agree, you can feel the nice grip like grabbing the ball with Mark V. Better looper for me.

thanks for the responses. Ill probably end up getting a sheet of mark v to try but I was wondering if I would notice a decrease in speed compared to the sriver. im starting to play more higher level players that either blow it by me or take over offensively if i dont put something on my loops and shots.

so which of the mark V series requires no glue? there are like 6 of them. i don't glue, so which of them are designed to be without glue?

I think the regular Mark V goes well without glue.  But Mark V 30 has an insanely soft sponge so no glue required there for that one.  There's another one with a soft sponge that is supposed to be good without glue as well but i can't remember what it's called.

I always felt regular Mark V was faster than Sriver L so I wouldnt worry about any loss of speed

Mark V 30 has the same topsheet as Mark V, I don't know about the Mark V GPS though, that one is also supposed to have a softer sponge.
