    Posted: 02/06/2008 at 8:12pm
Hi There

Im looking for a rubber with a tacky topsheet and a very soft sponge. The sponge should be around 35-38.

What are your recommendations?

Thanks for your help.

Greetings from Switzerland

Tackifire is very Tacky, but the sponge is a little hard, and its on the expensive side ( 30- 40$$$). I really like the spin I cn produce with it.

Galaxy Venus....has around 37 deg sponge and is fast for a tacky topsheet.... over the table shots are nice and slow and spinny and it also can go fastt if u put some muscle behind the shot.

You may try the soft sponge version of Tackifire-C. It calls Tackifire-C soft. The top sheet is very tacky and density is 34.

Tacky AND soft sponged will make it slow and very sensitive to spin...are you sure that is what you want? The closest I have seen is the JUIC 999 Elite Nano, which is very midly tacky and has a ~35deg sponge...

Hi there! Thanks for the first suggestions!

@Haggisv: Yes, I prefer a rubber with a very soft sponge. At the moment I play with a soft tensor rubber. The feeling is very well, bud there is only very little spin in my topsspins. Thats the reason, I look for a tacky topsheet. Bud i think a midly tacky topsheet would be great as well. What do you think about the Dawei Inspirit Quatro? Could that be a solution?

@ahoi1: Is the Tackfire rubber from Butterfly?

Thanks and Greetings

Globe 999 Japanese sponge, why not?
Its topsheet is softer than traditional Chinese ones, and the sponge is 38 degrees. For this if you still have problem with your topspins then you need to change your stroke a bit.

To get more topspin on a loop you really don't need a tacky topsheet, just a grippy one, and a soft sponge helps. Tacky topsheets make it easier to get heavy spin on the soft shots, like serves and pushes, but I don't think it will make a topspin spinnier.

What rubber are you using? I suspect you need to work on your technique to get more spin...

I  tried BTF Tackifire SS and didnt get any extra spin,. That rubber is also pretty heavy. Venus is better-faster but also heavy. I stick with Euro style rubbers now (G2FX). BTY Tackiness rubbers are lighter.

and if you're looking for tackiness on one side, the black is quite a bit tackier / softer in most of the chinese sheets.

it will make a bit of a difference in spin if you brush loop, with a tacky topsheet rubber

But if you brush loop you don't benefit from the softer sponge. The main reason I use a slightly tacky topsheet with my very soft saviga sponges is so I can get a little more out of my serves. I don't think it helps much on loops...may actually hurt if the ball can't make a clean break.

@haggisv: My technique is very well! I had never problem with the spin before the speed glue ban. The new rubber I use is a Xiom Omega I Tensor rubber. I have a very good feeling with it, bud the spin I can produce with it, is not a lot. The topsheet of all Tensor rubbers are not tacky enought to produce a lot of spin...thats my opinion.

Greetings Roger

By the way: Thanks for all your suggestions!

@swissping

I was facing the same issue as of yours... there are very few if at all really tacky rubbers with soft but good sponge. stuff like XT is too slow without glue for a decent play.

after wasting big bucks trying different combinations, i have come to the conclusion there no such rubber that is "RED" and really tacky and retains tackiness effecively, with soft and resonably fast sponge. :(

[ my caveat: "as tacky as i want them to be"]

so this is what i have done:

asked cole to make a combo of soft saviga sponge with one of the very tacky topsheets (and he suggested Galaxy Mercury), and the i spinmaxed the topsheet to make it ... really really tacky even on the RED side.

and now it works great without spending big bucks.

BH: saviga 35 max + galaxy mercury black + spinmax red
FH: saviga 40 max + galaxy mercury red + spinmax red
[you may need a fast blade.. i use galaxy T8]

I can invite any player in my club to give me a heavy chop that i cannot loop with it. ;)  but yes it needs good reading of opponent's serves .. since you are vulnerable too.

Hi debra

This could be also a solution for me to combine a soft sponge with a tacky topsheet. Thanks for your suggestion.

Greetings

Roger
