This question is too general to be meaningful IMHO; at least you should ask: what's the "best" 1-/5-/7-ply all wood blade you've tried so far and why?
Let me start: * 1 ply: Nittaku Excellent AAA (haven't tried too many yet) * 5 ply: Yasaka Ma Lin Extra Offensive (because of its speed + flex) * 7 ply: Stiga Clipper Wood, because of control/speed ratio (although I also like the feel of my Nittaku Septear) |

Really no such thing as the best blade. Otherwise every pro would play with that blade already.
For me - it is Clipper, for somebody else it would be Korbel, for another one it would be yet something else.
I guess that is exactly the reason why Petr Korbel and Oh Sang Eun play with Korbel blade .

Played recently with classic Stiga blades: Hans Alser, Johannson
Loved the feel, kinda `zooming` the balls onto the table with precision. Best rubber fit was Mark V glued. |

LOl, no... I'm not selling the accoustic yet.. hehe .... 1-ply hinoki blade has great speed as an all wood blade plus the advantage of good ball controlling. In comparison to Amultart as a composite blade which emphasize on speed, 1-ply hinoki has far better control than most carbon composite blades... However, in feeling wise for top spin, I still prefer Accoustic (I may be wrong in this as I use different rubbers to test different blades : Bryce speed FX on Accoustic and Narucross EX soft on 1-ply hinoki, probably the combination is not right).
Anyway, for people who loves smashing and plain driving of the ball with some amount of looping, 1-ply hinoki tops the best-all-wood-blade list. Also, for 1-ply hinoki, do remember that the wood grain and the quality of the blade determines the performance and it may differ for different blades even from the same category....
Now, I want to test something different this week... Something not even in the market yet.... that is the 9-ply hinoki blade. I get feedback that this blade is specially made for top spin.... Maybe to win Accoustic?
Stay tune ..... to my "Quality Check Report" by the end of this week!!!!

I have a Violin R-H. I like it. And it's the one I use because I have chosen to play penhold with RPB. It's my most expensive blade and I have a lot of incentive to like it.
But honestly when I try my 1ply hinoki Jpen (just Cypress Alpha -- not even a top-end hinoki Jpen), I love the feel better. Unfortunately I can't play with it because it is not right for RPB. |
