This just doesnt make any sense to me. I thought that the blade with carbon layers would always have medium-hard to hard feel. How come some of the blades are soft (e.g., Viscaria)??

Well.... Because they use SOFT carbon... Wink

Some of them also uses other material in addition to the carbon material which makes them feel softer than the blades that are using just carbon. Materials such as Arylate-Carbon, Aramid-Carbon, Zylon-Carbon...

Viscaria is Arylate Carbon blade, 5 wood 2 arylate carbon.

The Carbo X5 is soft and uses regular carbon with no arylate.  The softness from this blade is due to the soft Basswood outerply.  TBS, Viscaria, and the like composites get their softness primarily from the arylate woven into the carbon.

Balsa Carbo X5 aka Carbo X5 softness is also due to it's using Balsa wood.

Yep Smile  But my Tricarbon is also 2 layers of balsa over the core ply of carbon and it is not nearly as soft.  The hard Paduk outerply is what formost changes its characteristics. Put that Basswood on the top ply of the Tricarbon and you'll get a softer feeling, essentially faster Balsa Carbo.

The slash between the A/C is part of the abbrevation for Arylate/Carbon.  Viscaria is 7 plies total.
