I know answer on question why TT players use ugly edge tapes which has no TT brands on them, on Olympic 2008!

Because old beautifull edge tapes have glue which is toxic, and which affect enez test! Oficial Olympic TT team give each player new edge tapes which have water based glues before start of the olympic TT team competition!

The Olympic rules for bats doesn't accept brand names or logos on sidetapes.

Why not? That is pretty stupid, but I know this rule isn't followed in leagues like the JTTAA, where almost everyone uses branded edge tape

I think that branded edge tapes have toxic glue, and for this reason they are baned

You mean sidetapes have VOC based sticky material? Even we assume it's true, the VOC ban didn'T start yet. It start next month. There's no reason for not using them. No ENEZ test for bats during Olympics. I also think it's due to logo/brand thing.

I think its branding...probably to avoid clashing with the olympic sponsors. We're talking BIG MONEY here! Besides, the VOC ban is only effective next month....

This is especific for Olympic games.

I read this on  IOC General Guidelines Concerning Identification of the Manufacturer on  Clothing, Equipment, Accessories for Beijing 2008 Olympic Games.

They say: one identification of the manufacturer will be permitted on the
blade, and one identification of the manufacturer item will be permitted on each rubber, engraved on the rubber, not greater than 10% of the surface area of the item, to a maximum size of 60 cm2

If somebody remember in Athens 2004 was the same thing.

Cheers,

yeah, they are allowed to use glue and VOC's for the olympics, they don't care about edge tape.

why the edge tape, why use them at all...they can decide they want to use it or not...surely if they do not want to show their sponsors logo just take off the printed logo edge tape off the blade...but why do they tend to use the fugly tape...in my opinion banned glue effect tend to last longer than legal gule...so as to slow down the lasting effect of the legal glue, they obviously have to seal it along the sides of the sponge, because that is the only way the glue vapours can get out...as the edge tape tends to restrict the vapour flowing out of the sponge...Embarrassed
