I was in walmart yesterday and some glue sticks caught my mind. You know the kind that are either white, or purple color and used for paper and other things. They are acid free I believe. Think they would hold a sheet of rubber on well enough, and not leave a big mess?
I might try and find one and experiment with some old rubbers and blades, unless somebody else has tried it. |

I use glue sticks at work alot. Seems most of the paper I stick together with it, drys alittle on the hard side and dosnt hold that long. But there are many versions of it. Ive been using one that is purple in color, and one that is almost milky clear color.

Funny you should ask:
http://www.mytabletennis.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=21282 I did not see your thread until I had created the other one... I used one that _is_ working(see above), and 3m makes another one that is restickable...not sure if that would be better. http://www.amazon.com/Scotch-Restickable-Glue-Stick-0-20/dp/B00006IFBO/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=office-products&qid=1222989803&sr=1-1 |

i think it would leave chunks on your sponge and your blade making it really bump[y on the playing surface.

Nope, not if you use the credit card technique. Smooth as glass, I think I misted it with water on the rubber sheet cause it was getting slightly dry, then put em together and it worked.Who knew?

I once used thick rice soup to stick rubber to a blade and it worked fine. My main concern with these water based glues is that they do not form a uniform surface when cured. For example, I tried YES paste, put on a super thin layer, but still when I removed the rubber and look at the blade the glue did not form a uniformly flat surface. Will this affect playability? I don't really know, but I tend to blame my losing matches on it!

i've been trying to find a glue alternative that will work well - i'm not sure that the glue sticks will work - it doesn't seem that it has the adhesive power to hold the rubber.
i'm heartbroken to see what the ittf's rules are reducing us to......LOL

Cook some chinese rice and smash it. It should be sticky enough to glue the rubber and blade together. It is VOC free and ITTF should not bark at all when you go to a tournament.
Oh, did I mention that the smashed rice is VOC free?

I will know only when I remove the sheet, I got some play left in this sheet f Roxon and no other rubber to put on...so it will be a while.

Must be white rice. Brown rice is not very sticky. You can also try boiling rice powder in water which was basically what we used as school glue when I was a kid.
For flat rubbers (no speed gluing, no tuning), anything somewhat sticky should affix them to the blade. How playable and how easy to remove/clean are the question. |
