I'm wondering if blades with flared handles will make the part between your thumb and your index finger sore if you play a lot in that style. In particular, I'm looking at a few different blades, among them the Butterfly Primorac, Butterfly Grubba Carbon, and Butterfly Timo Boll, which are all only available in FL at megaspin.net. I currently have Cooper "no-name" paddles that I got at Canadian Tire, and the pen"held" part is not very smoothed/curved, but rather pretty well defined, and makes that part of my hand a bit sore after hours of play, so that's one of my concerns with paddles that aren't sold in PHC grip style.
The other question I have is whether or not FL is easily adaptable to both deep shakehand and penhold play. If it's pretty all-purpose, then even if I'm interested in trying out another grip style, I'll be able to do it pretty easily. Thanks. |

When I was playing shakehand I used Stiga Offensive WRB and Offensive CR with the FL handle (I tried both Master and Legend). When I switched to penhold, I started using Stiga Offensive Classic with the Penhold handle. The pen handle is definitely more flat. The penhold blade seems to be more elongated but I'm not 100% sure about it. I would suggest to buy a blade for penhold, because it's easier to hold and because you are going to use a lot of sandpaper to adjust the shape of it slightly.

I know you want the ability to change.. but i know there is a site around that you can get a bunch of butterfly blades in cpen that you cant get anywhere else. It might have been fareastsports but i dont know for sure. |

Um
Get some sandpaper and sand the pen held bit! Gets smoother and nice and doesn't affect shakhand style O_O |

Thanks for the reply guys. I'll think about sandpaper as an option, although I don't think I'd ever use it on more expensive equipment (even though the damage would only be cosmetic). It seems like my parents actually have a DHS cpen paddle for me (just heard about it today) so I'll have a go with that first before buying anything.
sy1935: Those are some weird handles! beeray: That sounds interesting, I'll have a look if I can find that site. |
