- How do you play flat when your opponent put a lot of backspin on your ball and you don't want to push.
- How does Schlager setup his game play ? I saw him attack almost every time the opponent push or serve, he really play off+.He can flick every push ...which I can't do :)) ! - How to force your opponent to play an open match without using too many short pushes ? THanks to all ! |

you gently hit with an open blade
- How does Schlager setup his game play ? I saw him attack almost every time the opponent push or serve, he really play off+.He can flick every push ...which I can't do :)) ! If I knew the answer you'd have asked the same question replacing "Schlager" with "fatt"
- How to force your opponent to play an open match without using too many short pushes ? learn how to gently topspin over the table: on the BH you point at 6 O'clock with your blade and you gently loop on the back/left side of the ball (if you are right handed) from bottom to top, lifting the ball up to apply topspin. On the FH same on the bottom/right side. |

when there is a lot of backspin on the ball but you still feel more or less confortable trying to initiate an attack from your forehand, then here is what you need to do (and bear in mind that what I am saying here is only a part of the possible truth, I do not claim to be an authority on the most proper technique)
Do the regular topspin swing but a) open the blade a little bit more, b) adding a little more push by the blade. So, in short, a bit more hitting-thru, a bit less of brush-stroking. If you don't want to risk a too agressive, fast attack (which may project the ball too far beyond the table) then your motion should include more of an upswing then forward swing. Let it be a slower but more upper-throw arc, then it will be safer and more consistent albeit less dangerous. But I believe it's a good way to start with this particular technical element. |

THanks to all ! To attack underspin balls instead of pushing, your hand speed is crucial. The more sensitive your rubber is to incoming spin, the quicker you must be able to swing your paddle, no matter how small or large your movement is. This is particularly important if you want to flick short pushes/serves. The rule of thumb is the slower/spinnier the incoming ball, the faster you must move your paddle.

Thanks all of you, I understand lots of things. But now, I think I should keep on practicing the flick so it helps me to attack those nasty backspin balls.
