He hasn't used Alpha in a long time. I am not sure he ever did - he mostly plays with Btfy Mazunov but with Alpha's lens installed on it so that it gives the appearance of Alpha.
He also mostly uses grip cover on the handle, so the lens issue is now moot. And his rubbers nowadays are indeed Nimbus VIP. |

Basically, everyone... who knows him and his equipment. For instance, when he was playing in St.Petersburg at Euro Champs 2008, some guys from Russian TT forum came over to him and looked at his racket. On Russian forums it is given as a well-known fact. Here is guy from Belgium (Samsonov's former country of residence) commenting on it http://forum.oneofakindtrading.com.au/viewtopic.php?p=51174 Here's our own discussion of this issue http://mytabletennis.net/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=22726&PN=1 |

The guy in St.Petersburg was one of Samsonov's stunts. Yeah I'm pretty sure. At that time being the real one was playing with me. He uses some pre-made paddle with 1.5 mm panasia rubbers. He said he has been using it for 20 years. I believe him. BTW never trust them Russian forums. They all are ex-KGB. Might fed you up with misinformation and make you an EJ!

Well...He was trying to make a joke but it did not work too well... I think we all had such moments when what you are saying/writing sounded so much better in your head few seconds ago...

For sure he is not using Tibhar Samsonov Alpha. I had a quick chat with him a day before the Japan Super Circuit in Tokyo with his bat on top of his lap. |
