I don't think clothing hurts the image of the sport. There're lots of sports that require really weird clothing, but still way more popular than table tennis. Wrestling, however, always catches my eye (in a bad way I guess):

I love my Adadis ATS DRY shorts and shirts. The shorts are kind of mid long length, but feel like I almost have nothing on because they are so light and airy feeling.  I do not like any type of restrictive clothing.  I could never stand to wear cotton t-shirts while playing TT.

Totally agree. I got a pair of Adidas running shorts a while back and they are amazing. The material is so light and nonrestrictive that they don't have to be super short to allow movement. People can wear what they want but it would be nice if Saive didn't roll em up so high Tongue

If it's a really hot girl with nice legs I love the short shorts, but for a guy, that's just wrong!

Ok, let me tell you guys a story about Saive and his short shorts.  A friend and I were at a tournament where JM Saive and his brother Philippe were both playing.  JM was playing a match and our seats were about three rows back from the barriers.  The ball went outside the barriers and JM went to get it.  So he went over the barrier you know, one leg at a time.  He displayed his um, family jewels.  I had to shake my head to kind of recover from the shock.  Maybe I was mistaken and perhaps, what I saw was a mistake.  I then looked at my friend and sure enough, he had that shocked look too because of what he saw.  Not only that, the two rows ahead of us also kinda looked behind at us and also had that awkward look in their faces.  It's really funny now because sometimes, you see something and you think maybe you're wrong but everyone else has that same look and you're sure that some hairy non-ping pong balls were displayed.  I've been successful at suppressing this memory for many years.  Now I have to work a few more years to block the memory.  Thanks Disapprove

Oh, regarding the actual vote.  I think it should be dictated by local custom.  If you're playing in Europe or Europe-related country, then you have to wear the scrotum hugger.  If you're in North America, you have to wear the basketball shorts and look like a grand-daddy.

I agree about complying with a local custom - although once in a while it can produce some therapy-inducing weirdness (BeaverMD, I sympathize!).

When I visited my friends in Finland and went to a public swimming pool with them I was told theer I couldn't use my regular American swimming trunks (and believe me, they are not of that superlong, going below the knee, variety) because "they look like street clothes, and it's therefore not hygienic". You know what I had to do to be able to swim with my friends? I had to rent (!!!) used (by hundreds of people before me, I can safely assume) speedos from the poolkeeper - how's that for hygiene?

Everyone should wear knee length shorts. Not too short not too long. Tiny shorts are a bad habbit in table tennis imo.

Exactly, that it why it needs to be regulated, sortof like golf, you can't play golf in any random outfit.

LOL and I think wearing just socks is illegal not by ITTF but but the country (indecent exposure)
