It depends on what you are referring to.  There are illustrations on the web regarding long pimples.  If struck when vertical they bend a certain way.  If struck on angle they don't. 

Short and long pips can have different patterns, diagonal, or maybe vertical?

Some people say black has more spin, because red has extra color added.
