It was developed by ITTF ball expert, Mr. Joahim Kuhn, that tt-balls of celluloid materials would grow in hardness and shock-resistance by around 10% per three-year of storage time. One definately can take a practical benefit by the Dr. Kuhn's discovery. For example, the DHS*** ball is known to be giving rather a vague, mushy feel in strokes, as having quite a soft shell. But the elders of the DHS, 4-years old and up, did prove to give an optimal feel, durability and pleasure in play. The same phenomenone would take place with other "softy" ball brands as well. HOW DO I KNOW THE PRODUCTION DATA... The 4-character code is usually seen right on the flap, on every paper box. E.g. XFXE = 06 05 = June2005 , therein ABCDEFGHIX = 1234567890 Do check the data code when shopping for the balls.

He is claiming that an aged ball is harder. IE.....the plastic fully cures in years...not minutes, days, weeks, or months. And you can tell the manufacturing date from #'s on the boxes.
I'm trying to figure out which 4 numbers he is talking about. |

I prefer them hard but the harder they are the more easily they break and 40 mm ball don't last very long at all. It's not uncommon for us to break 3 of them during one teams match. You only have to top edge one loop to crack one usually

Soft balls are bad for feel. I like donic balls, so durable and hard.

Mhh a dealer once told me, donic jooka etc balls all come from china. Probably made by DHS anyway. I don t like soft balls either. I had some really bad experience with Andro PX balls and my hard china rubber. First i thought my rubber is totaly worn out cause played like an anti, but it was the soft ball which rather deformed while contact instead of deforming the rubber. |
