1. Natural olive oil or even pomace
2. Pure eucalyptus oil (too expensive to get it around)
3. NIVEA Baby Oil mixed up with 5 ml eucalyptus oil.
4. your discovery...

Those oil based solutions are just absorbed into the sponge and oil don't tend to evaporate fast. The soakage causes the sponge to expand of course.

Is that considered cheating? will rubbers play better? is there a chance that top players use "formulas" that we don't know about?:O |

According to ITTF its illegal. Rubbers tend to play better when tuned (expanded sponge allows some more spin and speed) |

This tuning illegal stuff is covered in a lot of topics through out the forum you can search it.
But there are lots of rumors that a lot of pros tune and there are a lot of amateur players that do it secretly or sometimes not even secretly. And yes Haifu OIL is illegal, that white stuff is just bouncy glue that add a bit to the sponge its not an actual oil, the brown stuff is an oil but they reversed the names for some reason. |

Did you use a tacky rubber? I'm really surprised at that, because if I put Spinmax on a tacky rubber, the ball sticks to the rubber for over 30 seconds every time. |

I used it on BW2 which could pick up a ball for 3 seconds or so when it was new, I;m using the new Joola green spinmax. I heard the red one adds more tack :/ |

I use green too. How are you applying it? I pour some into the cap and soak it up with a cosmetic wedge. Then I apply it with a circle motion, wait for it to dry, then repeat as many times as possible until the sponge dries up.

Guys, I use all the substances listed in the first post to clean up the rubber when it is already glued on the blade. No smearing of the sponge at all. I wonder how this contradicts the ITTF injunctions and what is the nature of the cheating here?!

I use the same method except I don't do it in a circle motion.. I do it from the bottom to the top straight line strokes till it dries. I'm not sure if I should keep a little wet surface of spinmax on the sponge to dry naturally or should I force it to dry faster with repeating the strokes. |

The rule you are breaking is that you are not allowed to alter the topsheet, the only reason putting tuner on the sponge is illegal is because it soaks into the topsheet |

Are you saying that all tuning, including the factory one, is illegal?
Thank you,

Factory tuning is legal because it does not alter the topsheet :P, since it's approved with the tuner allready in it |

If your talking about haifu one, it is actually just a layer of glue not a soaked sponge.

ITTF only approves topsheets. So tuning sponge is legal EXCEPT it stretches it. Cause when you put the curled rubber on the blade, the topsheet automatically also stretches, which alters the topsheet.
One way to tune the sponge without stretching the topsheet ( and so being "legal" ) is to tune a sponge only and then glue the topsheet on it.
But you must really be a fanatic player to do the hastle as an amateur.
