Yea I have one. What exactly do you want to know? It's a good blade, very popular in China, used by Zhang Zike, and is the basis of many blades such as TBS, M.Maze, and some other arylate carbon blades in the Bty range. Koto top ply, not "hard" enough for my personal liking, but overall you can do everything with it. Feel free to ask away.

Its usually heavy, over 90g, and you can't find it in ST. I think that's why not many people use it in the west compared to old blades like M. Maze and TBS.

Viscaria is a very good blade. You can pair it with a fairly fast rubber like Bryce Speed and it will become an attacking monster while still remaining very controllable in the short game, even by a mere mortal like myself. No vibration at all, good dwell time, feels like a natural extension of your hand when you hold it.

Viscaria has much more vibration than my Mizutani, which still has a little vibration, so I wouldn't say "no vibration at all".
Anyway, back on topic, I don't think it is different enough from keyshot Light to warrant a switch. |

How does Mizutani compare to Viscaria?

Mizutani is faster and stiffer despite being about the same thickness. It is about as fast as the "mid-fast" japanese classification gets. The biggest difference the two are the center plies, with the Viscaria having soft balsa and the Mizutani using something harder. The different composite weave and outer plies attribute for other smaller differences in performance and feel.

Does Viscaria really have a balsa core? Why would it be over 90g with fairly compact head size...
I know Butterfly says so on their US site, but I've seen other things where they were not correct. So if somebody owning one could check - appreciated (just press with your fingernail - it should leave a mark if its balsa). |

Viscaria is good for looping and counter looping game. I like the feel and the consistent shots of this blade. If they make ST handles, I would go back to this blade. I can't use FL, so I moved on to Schlager Carbon, then T5000. |

I have played with this blade for five years and own several. I think it is the best blade Bttfly has ever made. It is heavier and faster than Keyshot light, which to me plays like a toy blade. Viscaria is most similar to TBS, but a touch faster, a little softer and weight distribution is more to my liking. Also similar to TB ALC, but softer and less weight in head. Definitely softer feel than Amultart, and IMHO, is a much better balanced blade. Faster than KLH special or Maze. Viscaria is about 90 g usually, but feels lighter because a lot of weight is in solid handle. The handle is comfortable but a tad small if you have big hands. I use grip wrap. There is absolutely no vibration with this blade. It is a spinner's dream blade. Great ball feel, but as noted by other posters, only a few were ever made in straight handle, and no longer sold that way. I would think that a straight handle Viscaria is at this point quite rare and valuable. I don't think the core is actually balsa, but it is fairly soft wood (or an unusually hard balsa). I have never used a Mitzutani so can't compare there. Viscaria pairs great with T05 or T64.

I disagree with MildSeven about one thing -- I think Viscaria feels very different from Keyshot light. It is much heavier, faster, and has a much more powerful feel, and much less vibration. It is much closer to the original Keyshot.

They (Butterfly) made Viscaria with ST handles about five-ten years ago. I've seen one, with a six year old pair of rubbers (Mark V and Individual) with tons of fiber missing form the edge-but a Viscaria ST no less!
If you contact Butterfly.CO.JP they can probably set you up with ST-handle Viscaria. They have a special page just for custom blades! You can choose your own composition, handle design, weight, head shape etc. but it costs a lot, but not compared to normal Butterfly ZLF/ZLC blades. Edited by IanMcg - 10/10/2011 at 11:59pm |

About four years ago it was $250 to have Butterfly make a custom Viscaria with a different handle.

Last time I checked (around five months) it cost about the same as an Innerforce ZLC blade to get a carbon custom. The price varies with the model your asking for. |

Yes, I'm sure that's right, and probably it costs less also to have them make something they have made in the past--like a Viscaria ST. I had them build a Viscaria with a Cresail handle. They did it, even though they haven't sold or built Cresails for many years. The thing ended up weighing a ton, though, so I don't use it anymore.
