I like yoshida's long serves so much.
Yoshida served around 8 long serves in the first game, how brave he is, and most of them scoredBig%20smile

By the way, Merry christmas to you all!!!

this is the best ive seen yoshida play in ages. he has really developed his serve. One problem is that he got kind of lazy and he needed to do more with his backhand. Although he lost i feel the hell make the 2010 wttc very interesting for Japan.

i think yoshida hides his serves.  i know most players move their hands away at the last moment but yoshida pushes that a bit too far.

as commented on youtube, the long serves from yoshida really suit his game, very effective first game. It really tested the footwork and anticipation of zhang yike

I thought that too, those sneaky penholders look like they have good serves, but they hide them! (He Zhi Wen)

Yoshida lost so many points popping up serves from zhang jike. Should have flipped them aggressively like the last game. Pity....

His long serves are really deadly. So much spin, and the best is that he serves both reverse and normal sidespin so fast! Crazy...

I agree with you his serve return was way too passive.

actually it's the weakness of penhold backhand...
no aggressive way to return serves for penhold backhand...

The only way is RPB which he does not do.
Does jpen have aggressive way to return serves at backhand?

but you dont necessarily have to be aggressive on the return. If he reads it well enough he can just place it well as opposed to trying to just get a winner or forcing the error. He could also move over and try to receive with the forehand all the time, but that would leave to much space open for his opponent. Yoshida is known for hitting very aggressive backhands so he could try to loop off of the backhand on serves, but that would require amazing timing and would be difficult to pull off. All of this aside though, this is the best ive seen yoshida play since 06-07

but i don't see his godly backhand from this match Cry
actually from the man's single round of east asian games, Yoshida have another match with zhang and he lost 3:4.
I think it will be a exciting match but the tv do not broadcast itCry
