There are too much to critique since both of you would be considered as basement players.

You should get the coach Ouch

Can't really say so. The girl's technique is pretty much basement-style (altough not too bad for fun TT), but the guy's technique is definitely trained. The fh looks way too much like Tennis to me, but much bettern than most just-for-fun players I know.

That being said, my most important personal advice would be to get rid of that Hexer sheet that you are playing (according to the Youtube comment) and take something more forgiving instead. I think that Hexer is just above your current level

When my girlfriend gets time, I think she really wants to join this forum, so if anyone could help with the whole backhand thing that would help a lot. She has a lot of trouble hitting with the same motion every time. Its pretty inconsistent. Sometimes she will hold it with a good forty-five angle but chop down on the ball. Her forehand is kind of straight up as well and I think its b/c she chokes down on the blade way to much but I'm not sure. Thanks for any comments. They are much appreciated. And like I said again, we are just playing for fun. At a competitive level I wouldn't be hitting it to her fh everytime and she wouldn't be blocking back to my fh. She can beat almost any guy that attends our college and even a few that have been to tournaments.

her finger(index) is too high on the blade should be lower this is causing her to have a pushing motion when she is hitting the ball and in-consistense

Everyone is aware of my bias against fast equipment, so I'm going to tackle the equipment side of things:

One of the biggest dangers of fast blades (like Viscaria Light and Iolite Neo) and fast rubber (like the Hexer and Outlaw Pretuned) is that users develop "wrist" strokes instead of body strokes. It's more obvious with kelly's FH and with your backhand.

Low dwell leads to lots of little "hand" adjustments, and takes your focus off of using your legs and body to control the ball.

With your tennis background, you seem to have the Neo H3 under some degree of control for loops, but I believe that the speed of the Iolite is killing your consistency.

The lure of this sort of ultra-fast and ultra-spinny gear is that when the pace gets quick, the equipment produces wonderful arcs and speed, without that much user input. That's also it's downfall, especially in the short game (you opponent can dictate what kind of mistake you will make).

I'll agree with ttguy on this.  They do have what you call basement form even if his technique is trained (not enough).

As for advice on how to fix your form, look at the post I typed up for Icontek on his thread called US1054 warm-down.  Most of my tips for him also apply for you.  And he is right about the equipment you are using, its too fast for you.  I think my fh is quite stable and can counter-hit 30+ balls with relative ease and some still say my HK655 is too fast for me.

As for your gf having bh consistency problems, have her work on her fh first as she holds her blade like a stop sign.

Like what someone else said on here, you won't beat those U1000 kids in the video.

Thanks some more for the comments and input. I know it seems counterproductive, but I'm sick of spending and spending on table tennis right now. So the money I could spend to slow down my set up, I will use for training. Even though the training I found is very high...for me at least. 34$ per hour or 114$ for four, one hour sessions. I'm not sure if there are any actual coaches in my area. Just the owners of my club host sessions. And to be honest to everyone...I have only played tennis like maybe 20 times. I just started when I met Erin b/c she played tennis. She is the one with the tennis background, not me. I hit my fh like that before I played tennis. But if its bad form then I will try to stop.

You and your girl friend have very good reaction for the ball. It is one of important part of the sport person. Here are some of my suggestion.

1. Adjust your hand grip to grip the paddle correctly.
2. Learn about hitting in the right form. What is the difference between smashing and looping? When to hit the ball or when to loop the ball (The correct timing is very impartant)
3. Need to understand about top spin, under spin (back spin), so you could handle serve correctly.

All those things you could find out from the forum and from youtube.

The most important thing is to find someone to help you to adjust the above.
