Jeff, it took many years for me to realize I can do better on FH with a softer sponged modern dynamic rubber on an OFF class wood blade. I found I can still pound it and bring it with a softer rubber dispite what anyone says.
Often, the same blade in a heavier weight will feel more solid and powerful. You have some of my tendencies and like the 90s range, I can get along with low to mid 100s too if balance is there. |

BH-Man, I've read and heard stories about how many pro's used heavy blades. I think a lot of it matches up with your sentiments.
Patrick - interesting you mentioning that; the two blades I got to try from my friend were vintage 2018 and they both had amazing feel. Maybe the glue needs longer to cure - wood to dry out?

I was originally reviewing a few other blades but recently someone broke into my car and stole my gym bag with 5 of my blades in there. Luckily this blade was delayed at the post office for 3 days.
So currently playing with OSP Virtouso AC
Large size (159) with a flared handle. Currently has Yinhe Mercury Rubbers - FH: red Hard BH: black medium Feels great so far, will post videos soon - HUGE SPIN on openings Wondering if I were to order this blade, can I get a KOTO surface on the FH. Love the limba feel on backhand, but a little soft on my FH side Played with KOTO or WALNUT in the fh for years |

I just ordered the Martin AC - unsure of head size yet - prob 158
After playing with the Virtuoso AC 159mm Flared since December, the following is a brief review: FH Yinhe Mercury II/ BH Dignics 05 - flared 159mm 91 grams (made October 26) Normally I use Hurricane 3 Neo, but used Mercury II Hard for this blade (that poverty time and to be able to really compare my blades) - boosted 1 layer seamoon Background on style (I’ve improved since this old review for another company blade) https://youtu.be/HTT3vOKYUsM - will post videos on Virtuoso AC soonish - FH dominant counter looper, 3rd ball, BH block/counter Drive: not sure if it is the blade size but the drive feels absolutely solid. Due to the head size it is head heavy on strokes, which gives momentum during impact on your drives. Lots of feedback, without vibrations. Sounds more wood w a very minor carbon ping. A lot of safety due to high arch, and spin brings ball down. A little pressure on the FH on harder strokes and this blade gains a bit of speed on contact —> LOTS OF GEARS. On harder drives half to one step away from the table and it still gets more clearance on its arch with a louder ping from the carbon (and crack from the rubber) Blocks: I think drives and blocking is very closely related, and hands down, this is one of THE BEST BLADES FOR BLOCKING. May it be passive or aggressive blocks, with Dignics 05, it’s very LINEAR (especially the hardness of Dignics 05). I am able to vary my blocks a lot, and has allowed me to take advantage of weaker returns for a pivot to the FH. Loop: medium soft feel with a lot of DWELL TIME, even with the Dignics 05 on the Bh. FH, I may be bottoming out Mercury II on hard shots but they are definitely spinny and loud on power loops. For consistent loops, I may be struggling a bit, as the head size does take a larger effort to get back to ready position, but if you commit, it’s doable and easy to overshoot if you’re not careful with your blade angle —> at far distance though, the blade is very capable and that high arch combined with a closed angle just makes it a rocket once it hits the table. Compared to Viscaria (M series) and FREITAS ALC all with Mercury II - Virtuoso AC is spinnier Virtuoso AC>Freitas>Viscaria; as for SPEED per hitting partner - Viscaria > Freitas > Virtuoso AC Counter loop: this is my forte on the FH and again, maybe due to the size, the blade gives me so much confidence and margin of error when counterlooping. It almost absorbs then shoots the ball out (not as fast as the butterfly blades, but definitely POWERFUL and a lot of spin —> I get blocked when I counterloop with the Viscaria) Push: the blade is lively but not that bouncy. I think if you’re using tensors, this bad boy may gain a bit of low end speed, and a slight issue on pushing. With tacky rubber on FH, and harder sponged BH, I saw no issues with pushing. They are loaded w. spin especially if you push with side spin (lots of my opponents miss on openings). I can easily drop shot using dignics 05 and definitely with the tacky fh rubber. Great for a mid push return, then step back ready for a block. Serves: due to the size I did avoid using a traditional PENDULUM serve as I was having a small issue recovering or preparing for a follow up shot. Due to the feel of the blade though, serves are loaded and allows me to feel where the ball touched on my racket. Backspin serves are extra deceptive especially middle distance (double bounce) Overall feel: As someone recovering from a hand injury, I want to say, hands down this is one of the best feeling blades I have used. The handle shape and size is perfect that it allows me to play in a relax manner allowing me to spin better. I love the handle so much, that I decided to order another blade from OSP. I would rate this INNER CARBON STYLE blade at 9/10 for my style of FH dominant game play. I mostly block on the backhand and this blade has A LOT of safety and stability. It’s very linear blade due to the feel. If you want it to go fast it can go fast, if you want slow and spinny, you got it. Feels ALL wood close to the table minus annoying sound and vibration, and good flex and speed mid distance (again prob due to 159 head size) Overall my consistency and patience developed with this blade. Quick attacks and fast recovery has suffered, but slightly changing my playing style to LETTING THE OPPONENT MAKE THE MISTAKE brings a lot of potential to this blade and allowed me to win against opponents I used to lose to a lot. Reason why I’m getting the Martin AC is because recently I noticed when I warm up with this blade and train then switch to the FREITAS for matches I am an absolute beast on counters, 3rd ball, and mid distance (passive blocking suffers slightly) Not sure because of the lighter blade Freitas at 85g, but the Virtuoso definitely helped me focus on my technique and FEEL for the game.
