Haha, hopefully it will become more open to us all. But for me, I want to still go Kim Taek Soo with the blade and rubber. Not that I have yet. :P

That's good then! :D

Also I'm not trying to generalize, but are Korean rubber sheets harder in general? My Korean friend's Champion blade has a Champion rubber sheet that plays pretty hard. Like you feel the stiffness of the sheet.

Paracite, these items are available to be shipped worldwide, Ryu does shave his blade to fit his hand, and BTY=Butterfly. This thread is 10 months old, much has happened since then.

Peace out.

LOL I didn't look at the date. I haven't been updated with TT for a long time due to the school year.

Xiom is only being sold in South Korea and Germany at the moment.  But from their website it seems they will have agents in Los Angeles and New York at some point.  I had to pay a pretty penny to order from them in Korea but it is high quality.

Blade: Whatever is close
Rubber Sheet: Whatever still has some grip.

Hi guys, just been browsing XIOM`s website. Can someone tell me the difference between Platinum, Gold and Silver blades? Gold and Silver ones are much cheaper - what`s the reason?

It has to do with the quality of the hinoki wood used in the blade. There are a number of threads on this forum discussing hinoki, so I suggest that you look at those. For JPen blades, the quality of the hinoki wood is the single most important factor.

Basically, the Ryu Seung Min Platinum model is made from the highest quality hinoki, and these are hard to come by so naturally cost more. The gold and silver models are little lower in quality, they are more abundant and hence cost less.

To be quite honest, though, the difference in quality will only be obvious to highly skilled players. The very best hinoki blades have the power, feel, and the ability to impart spin on the ball (yes, the blade itself, not just the rubber, puts spin on the ball--I got this info from a very highly rated JPen player, and also Chiang Peng Lung mentioned this in an interview). The high price is justified only if a player is able to take full advantage of the playing characteristics.

Hello powerlooper,

I completely agree with you. For many people that have not played J-pen for a while it is very difficult to feel the difference in the playing characteristics of hinoki 1 ply J-pens. It took me about 4 years to really feel a difference in my 1 ply hinoki J-pen. Unfortunately I do not play competitively anymore with J-pen because I made the switch to shakehand. But I still enjoy playing with my J-pen rackets for fun. The best 1 ply Kiso Hinoki J-pens will run about $150 plus these days, but if you are a high level J-pen player, I believe it would be a good investment if you could put down the money for that type of racket.
