    Posted: 11/04/2010 at 10:24pm
As the previous threads on the "best of brand series" seemed quite successful, I've finally got around to starting onto the next brand: TSP

What we're after here is opinions on what are the best rubbers/blades from this particular brand. It would be great to get as many opinions as possible about which you think are notable/special products from the particular brand, and a brief reason why. It's not about finding out which is THE most popular, but about finding a range of rubbers/blades from that manufacturer which are good and stand out a little.
This can be useful and interesting for anyone to find out a little about a brand, and can be particularly helpful to those that only have access to one or 2 brands, or have a personal preference to a particular brand.

I will also run this in a few other places and after a week or 2 I'll compile the feedback and summarise the comments. Then we can start on the next brand.

Brand of this thread: TSP

Brands covered already previously:

Butterfly: http://mytabletennis.net/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=19415
Joola: http://mytabletennis.net/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=19558
Yasaka: http://mytabletennis.net/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=19771
JUIC: http://mytabletennis.net/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=20592

Cheers!

Well obviously the German Balsa series are right up there with the very best of all balsa blades. From the Japanese line the Hino carbon is good (but a bit fast for inverted play). That's about all I have from the current TSP line up :) but I often drool over some of the other exotic blades they make

TSP is one of the few manufacturer with quite a range of defensive or combination equipment. They have quite a few popular pips as mentioned above, but also have some very good defensive blades, like the balsa 2.5/3.5 and and some of the reflex series.

Years back TSP 730 inverted was the rage for BH. It's not to fast and provides excellent control and spin. Also th Yanagi blades are excellent for defenders.

Apart from the pimple and defensive rubbers, I can't really think of too many TSP rubber that stand out. I'm sure some are quite decent, but not really unique or particularly popular.

TSP has always been a quality company as long as I can remember. They are certainly the goto for both short and long pips for a lot of top players.

Their triple series is a great rubber for inverted defenders who like to chop on their BH. Especially Triple chop series, 1.3-1.5 sponge...
Of course the Bamboo Curl series are great rubbers especially the one ITTF banned...
For blades, TSP Hino Carbon Power is great for hitting and blocking game. Lack dwell for looping for me but it was great for blocking and packed plenty power to hit the ball past your opponent..
Their Noriko Clean glue of course is legendary during the speed glue era..

The 3 Star balls are excellent in feeling, the arc is predictable and the speed is okay.

Is it true, that TSP produces the best pips-out rubbers? It is said that many world class players with pimpels play resp. played with TSP pimples: Liu Guoliang (Spinpips), Joo Sea Hyuk (Curl), Chen Weixing (Curl), Hou Yingchao (Spectol), etc.

Before speed glue ban I had the chance to play with several TSP rubbers. All them were very good.

-X's F1 was like their Mark V.
-Triple 21 was very spinny.
- Brio Spark Sponge felt like a Bryce Hard to me, quite hard and very fast.

No doubt, the most noteworthy blade ever made by TSP is Birmingham 77.  TSP Spectol is the most successful rubber.

IMO, TSP are equal with butterfly/xiom in term of finishing quality. just by looking on it, you can surely tell that high craftsmanship. I've used hino carbon, which is for me similar play with photino bty, and axelo xiom and similar quality as well. I think they need to put more for marketing budget and signed TOP player in order to compete with bty for market distribution.

for rubber you may try superspinpips, a high quality and consistent pips out and par with tanggo ultra/express ultra and cheaper version for 802-40.

Of course ChichoFicho knows about this blade; he is a "one of a kind" Kohno fan!

Let's not forget the original Spin Pip.. probably the first rubber ever been banned because the best player using it can make a fool of world class players with it Cry
For their inverted line, I've come across Bjorn, Brio, Triple series (For attacking play Triple 21 was a good spinny rubber), X's F1, Real, and one of the first tensor (i think) TSP Actor.
Real and X's F1 are great BH rubbers, Bjorn was more of a hitting rubber, Brio like some said can create decent spin.. Actor was nothing special but quite fast.
Of their SP I've come across Tyranno and Super Spin Pips. Both are quite hard to play against because they are fast and travel on a flat trajectory.. Never met a player using Spectol, but someone once said that it is their best SP..
