Hey Guys and Gals,
Before all of you have gone too far with the speed glue, voc free glue, elmer's rubber cement... etc, etc... try Tear Mender.
Nope, I don't work for them! I know what you are thinking....
I've ripped my expensive rubbers tons of time and don't want you guys to experience the same. So, here is the link.
Step 1: Shake well (with the cap closed of course)
Step 2: Squeeze the glue onto the blade 1st, NOT TOO MUCH, use a piece of soft sponge to spread it. Make sure it is nice and even. Let it sit and dry for 2 mins.
Step 3: After 2 mins, do the same as step 2, but do it on the rubber now, no drying is needed. Again, not too much glue!
Step 4: Apply the rubber to the blade and use a roller to squeeze out the air bubble.
Step 5: Let the whole thing dry, it might take about 10 mins. You know what to do then... If the rubber is new, this is when you make the cut.... otherwise, it's play time!
To remove the glue from the sponge:
Rub/roll the glue a little ( start from the edge), then lift(pull) the glue away from the sponge. You should be able to just pull the whole piece of glue off in one shot. It probably takes about 2~5 mins total. No, not everyone can do this in 1st time, it does take a few tries.
You can also check out youtube for more instructions, just search for tear mender.
Enjoy!
Merry Christmas!

How does tear mender prevent you from tearing compared to other glues? I can understand harsher speed glues which expand and can weaken the sponge. But, it takes a lot to tear rubber, and my guess is the same event will tear the rubber regardless of the glue type.
Is Tear Mender a strong or weak sticking glue? Speed glues and Elmer's have a fairly weak bond, so if any pressure pulls on the rubber, it's better that the rubber will unstick from the blade and not cause tearing. Now, if the rubber is torn and Tear Mender is good for repairing torn rubber, that's a different story. However, I'm not sure the 9oz $8.95+$6.95 S/H is really saving anything over the $3 8oz Elmers. |
