I have been researching the Timo Boll ZLF, the innerforce ZLF, and the Photino blade. What is the difference between these blades?
According to the butterfly shake hand matrix they all look pretty much the same? Any ideas? |

three very different blades
the timo boll zlf is 5.4 mm thick, and its construction is koto-zlf-limba-kiri-limba-zlf-koto it will have a flexy, bouncy, crisp feel too it. not too fast to control the innerforce zlf is 5.6 mm thick, and its construction is limba-limba-zlf-ayous-zlf-limba-limba limba is much softer than koto, and ayous is a denser than kiri. it will have a slightly stiffer, bouncy, softer feel too it. although it is a little stiffer it is not very stiff, and i would say it is equally controllable as the tb zlf the photino is 7 mm thick, and its construction is hinoki-zlf-kiri-zlf-hinoki hinoki is even softer than limba, but i honestly can not tell you how this will play in relation to the other two. my thoughts would be that because it is 7mm thick but two ply's short, the center ply is about 1 mm thicker than the other two and it should feel a little stiffer and softer than the innerforce. i would pick the tb zlf myself because i love that crisp feel, but id say with confidence that most people might enjoy the innerforce out of the three. that is if youre willing to drop the insurmountable amount of money each is worth lol. Photino's construction, to me, seems to be the same as Schlager Carbon's. SC which is 7.4mm thick, seems to have same thickness inner ply as Photino but instead SC has thicker outer Hinoki & it has thick carbon layers instead of ZLFs.
IMHO, my most favourite composite Btfly blade is Photino which is way way controllable, softer, less stiff, lighter in general, has more dwell time, has more feeling & therefore a nicer & better blade than SC.

Yes, it's 99.9% kiri in the centre of the photino.Great fast soft blade but a little too thick for small handed ones.

So why does the ZLF cost more than any of the other models?

So the innerforce ZLF is faster then the original ZLF because the Innerforce middle ply is made of ayous and that is denser then Kiri? Is that correct?
