Pretty much harder than 'the most overated piece of equipment' and more likely to be of benefit to us all.
 I'll start.
IMO the Kenny blade, produced by Butterfly in the 1970's as a cheap budget blade, was just a superb example, it was at one stage the best selling blade, out performing just about everything, pro's and beginners used it, there was little choice in those days, but the Kenny was a superb blade in every department, the fact that is was so cheap, IMO led to its downfall.

Maybe that's why we have the $$$ Butterfly blades now Smile

What kind of blade was it, and how would it stand up to modern-day ones, do you think?

Dawei Wavestone, hands down. It's cheap, but plays like a very expensive blade with excellent feel and control, but still packs the power.

The downside would be quality control as it might be hard to find 2 of them that are actually the same. I currently own 3, different weight and size on all of them. Don't change the playing charachteristics that much, but it would be nice if they all where identical.
The holy grail

A good, soft, fluffy, absorbent table tennis towel. No one talks about towels, but they're sooo awesome and an absolute necessity. I couldn't play without one.

I just buy a new pair every week and use the old ones for training.

My daughter uses a Primorac All blade. The hitting part of the blade looks like the Kenny. The Primorac also plays very similarly. I wonder if it's the 'descendant' of the Kenny?

in my opinion the most underated equipment are some chinese blades.

I remember at the time i played with the good stiga all mark v, a friend of mine brought an unknown dhs blade with double happiness rubbers.

It wasn't a pf4 032. In fact it was a very cheap blade that i managed to buy two of them in corte ingles (it is like sears). That unknown blade was awsome and can compete with the best stiga allround in that time. and the rubbers were also very spinny and good. after that time i got some very good chinese blades.

most of the times the problem is to know about them.

Komann balls.  They feel like a Nittaku in weight and hardness but are really cheap.  You get the occasional one not perfect round but they can't be beat for a robot or training ball.

I did play the BUTTERFLY Grubba Variant blade for a while.. That was one of Butterfly's lower end blades, geared towards developing players.. However, as I found out, that blade was a excellent choice for the long pips blocking game.. After several years using that blade, I ended up switching but I still have to say that the Grubba variant was a blade with really good control for long pips defense at the table..  The blade didn't sell well and Butterfly discontinued it.. Too bad.. It was a really excellent blade..

Another blade that I think is underrated is the 729 Black Whrilwind Transformer.. It's really a good feeling blade with a good mix of speed and control.. Considering the price, it's at least as good as other blades that cost twice as much..
