Hello guys, I've been playing in the local league for 2-3 years with
Donic Cayman and a pair of Butterfly Solcion (in time I switched from
1.7 to 1.9 on both FH and BH). I have recently tried a Timo Boll ALC
with a pair of Tenergy 05 2.1 and, although it was slightly too fast for
me, it still had reasonable control. So now I'm thinking how about
keeping my blade and replacing my old Solcions with a pair of Tenergy.
Question is: how would a pair of Tenergy cope with a ALL blade like Cayman? What model of Tenergy should I get in order to have much of the control I now have with Solcion? I'm thinking of Tenergy 05 FX because Solcions are fairly soft rubbers and maybe the FX sponge would be similar. Anyone who played with a similar setup please give me an advice. Thank you. P.S. I play somewhere between rally and attack, I prepare my attacks pretty much and go for it after 4-5-6 balls when I am in a good position. I don't loop too much, I place the ball on the table and usually attack with a smash. So control is pretty important for me and I'd like to choose the right Tenergy to keep it. |

IMHO, I think T05FX might be mushy and too soft for an ALL blade. I would give T64 a try instead.

How is T64 compared with T05FX? And maybe with T05 since this is the only one I got to actually play with.

Depends what do you want in terms of durability. Probably T64 1.9 would serve you better if you keep them on the blade for as long as you can, without regluing them.

I don't intend to reglue, so durability would be important.
Question is which Tenergy should I pick? 05? 64? 25? 05 FX? I'd prefer one closer as a feeling and especially control to Solcion, which is a soft tensor blade and works just fine on Cayman. I think any 2.1 Tenergy is faster then Solcion but I wouldn't want to be too fast. |

The Cayman is not really an ALL blade... it's closer to OFF, although there seems to be significant variations within batches too, mostly due to variation in the balsa wood). I've found that T05 does not combine the best with some balsa blades that I've tried... I've not tried it on the Cayman, but it may have the same issues.

For instance I didn't like BalsaCarbo X5 at all but I love Cayman because it's very light and works well with a soft high tension rubber like SOlcion.
Has anyone tried a Tenergy on a Cayman? |
