    Posted: 06/16/2011 at 5:27am
I was looking through the blades on a particular site and stumbled across the classic butterfly blades such as Primorac, Krobel, and Mazunov. Upon closer inspection I found that the tage at the bottom of the blade has changed and that the little "glass brand thingy" no longer says Made in Japan. here is the link.

http://www.spinfactory.de/shop/flash_grossansicht_app.php?imageFile=butterfly_petr_korbel_off.gif

Does anyone have a chinese made "butterfly classic" that they have bought recently? I wouold like to buy one but i don't know whether I should buy a new or second hand one. Any comments would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Some are made in Japan, some Europe. None of the classics are made in China as far as I know

The blades are made in Europe, for the European Markets.

I go to Melbourne high and I'm the vice captain of table tennis so I really do love my school. (just putting it out there). And thanks for clearing up the classic butterfly blade thing for me (*directed to everyone).

All blades with serial numbers are made in Japan. The 75 gr European Korbel is something extraordinary, though.

there aren't a lot of reviews about the korbel with tenergy 05 and 64. Do you have any experience with this combo? If so can you please shed some light on it?

thanks

I personally don't, but at least two of our nationals play with exactly the same combo. For instance the guy in dark blue

The BTY A. Grubba is now made by drunkin sailors on her majestys ship " Dingdong". Where in the world is this blade now made? Horrible workmanship compared to BTY blades made in Japan. The first blade I actually threw away when new. So had to find another setup for my wife.

I find the handle and behavior of Korbel very similar to my Palatinus OFF -. May be I request a second Palatinus, and make special demands for weight..

Palatinus is more elastic than my Korbel though. Better for looping.

BTW, if there's a poll for the best BTY blade ever, I would probably vote for the new Grubba ALL+

I use euro Korbel 76 gr, with Rakza 7. In the beginning I thought it's crap (light, flexy, head heavy, probably empty handle...) but later I found some good sides of combo and started beating people I couldn't ever beat. I have 'made in japan' Maze carbon but simply don't want to try it, Korbel plays good enough :D

Tiny Korbels play slower, i got 2 from dandoy in May: one is 74 g (silver tag) and the other 76 g (black tag). This is not necessarily a bad thing; nevertheless, BTY should just rename them Korbel Light or something because these are not up to specs. Same with some batches of European Primos - Primorac Light would be a better name.

Depending on the rubbers you plan to use, a lighter blade may be to your advantage. However , if you are looking for a decent offensive blade, the Korbel Light is not your best option; at 74 grams  it is an average ALL+. No power far away from the table with lighter rubbers / loss of control with heavier rubbers attributable to the resulting a very head-heavy combo.

Liking or disliking the lighter Korbels is a personal thing. I swapped my 2 Korbels + 10 Euro for a 89 g Japanese version, and I am certain I got the better value.

Local vendors has hinted that some of BTY blades are now coming from China. (they did not specify which ones, but you can pretty much (think you can) tell). Concerning European versions of Korbel and Primorac Classic, they are most likely coming from Hungary or Slovenia.

Totally random injection into this thread: my coach has a Maze Passion (nice blade, OC-like construction, with glass fiber, love it or dislike it, or... hate it I guess?) and the new maze passions no longer have the metal "tab" badge on the handle, but a smaller badge just on the base.  The handle is smaller, and the wood looks "younger".  I didn't get to hit with the new generation but it clearly came from some other manufacturing pipeline.

I remember the new korbels with the oval black badge on the base, I had one but didn't really use it long enough to form an opinion.  It was light.  The person I sold it to loved it so I wouldn't worry too much, but the old metal badge korbels are certainly well regarded among EJs.

It's totally unfounded, but I'm gonna throw it onto the fire just the same: butterfly VSG-* blades are made in china.

Actually a good source of definitive information might be iruiru.com, they usually mark things 'made in china' on the page if they know this to be the case.

any idea who or what company/blade maker makes the PKorbel w/oval "insert"? <80g IMHO is not a good thing for me. I've 2 ST, 1 from Presports which my old friend bought yrs ago & another ST "Special" as it was called bought from tt-japan.net & man, the quality of each is just immaculate & the weight of each is just is ideal/perfect.
I thought or my wish is that OSP (Mr. Palatinus & PLLSystem) should be THE ideal real representative of classic/ideal blade-maker from Hungary.
I just put my PKorbels & OSP V+ side by side & man, OSP V+ just stands out, Gosh!

Agree the BTY A. Grubba made 3 years ago was a fine ALL+ blade with very good workmanship but as of late they have been kindling for a fire. Do you have pics of the "new Grubba"? Butterflyonline.com and all BTY dealers need to post country of origin. per blade. Even the new allwood Timo Boll ALL+ and OFF- blades suffer from poor construction. Players deserve better for their hard earned money. Angry
