These are handmade blades from Alberto Prieto of Valor Table Tennis who specializes in blades for hardbat.  The first blade is more of a classic design, while the second has a modern shape and size.

Balsacarbo X5 has outer plies made of basswood but core is, as the name suggests, balsa. And guess what type of synthetic fibres are in between?

ืNowadays some blade still made by basswood but only outer ply and seem like quality aren't the same as in the past. You can tell the differrent by looking from wood or color, and when using it you can feel a lot more different things.

Most of finished blade like BTY addoy still use basswood as main matrial but they're lower quality wood.

ฺีIf you looking for all ply basswood blade with large face and cheap, may be try DHS 032,08,010.they're copy of old PF4 blade but still not the same as PF4.Or Yasaka falcon,Stiga active(not sure, possibly discontinued)

that's what I know.More than this wait for next rep.Smile

Basswood veneers are used for blade production very seldom. The problem is that basswood veneers are quite soft and fragile. Basswood as a wood is very often suitable for wood carving for his softness. Anybody who has Balsa carbo X5 knows what I am saying-basswood upper veneer is very fragile when regluing rubbers very often

basswood has similar properties as limba, but is even softer and fragile, as said. however it makes good mid ply for spin oriented game. i have it on my custom blade FH side, which is limba-basswood-balsa

What about having basswood as the core? Ross has it listed on his website.

I hope that Ross can provide an answer as basswood being the core.

Thanks.
