I don't play tournaments and I don't care if it's legal. I need a superthick sponge for some fun.
Yesterday I was about to throw an old sheet of training DHS rubber. But something shot through my head and I just glued it under a sheet of BWII. So the sandwich looked like this: The DHS topsheet was glued directly to the W 6 blade, then the DHS sponge was glued to the BWII sponge and the BWII topsheet was on top. It was THICK. Maaaaan did my sandwich loop them balls! It was a rocket, and it had the best dwell time i've ever seen! Spin, for some reason, was just lacking. I don't understand mechanically how that is possible, as the BWII topseet was super grippy and dwell time was good. Nonetheless, I was just RIPPING forehands against my poor robot. I highly recommend this ridiculous exercise before you throw an old sheet. No damage to my BWII or W6, but I wouldn't want to clean the topsheet of the DHS of all that rubber cement. It is FUN. Back to my question, where can I get a super thick sponge? I want to make one of my paddles with such rubber just for fun. May be I can just have Cole glue 2 x 2.0 mm sponges together and then a topsheet? I have this fear that 2 sponges glued will generate too many inconsistent throws though, prefer a single fat sponge if anyone sells. |

puppy412 : Sorry man, I don't mean to sound disrespectful, but I know that more training will make me better, I don't need to come here to figure that out

I look forward to seeing the results!
I tried this with some old rubbers and it was really fun, it was like playing with a mattress

I think 2.4mm was the thickest sponge I've seen available:

BTW, the thicker sponge comes with a higher price. You can send an email to see if they have even thicker. |

Just buy some sponge by itself and glue it to the blade. Then glue your regular rubber on top. Maybe glue two extra sheets. :^)
There's no reason it has to be a single layer. As you said, this is for fun and isn't intended to be legal. |

P.S. We have a player here who is still looking for the fastest blade and thickest sponge. He is using now a beer can on both sides of his blade and two max sponges glued together. Edited by Imago - 08/23/2011 at 11:29pm |
