I like the versatility of grips and the balance of the blade with the extra mass.

I started with Chinese penhold hard bats as a kid and played in tourneys when i was younger with good success but i was probably in the "attack/chopper" catergory. Then a Chinese and Japanese goodwill teams visited and i got to try and compare both Chinese and Japanese penhold, i fell in love with the rectangular/squared heads of Jpen plus that high bulky thumb grip made it feel really nice for hard and fast drives. as i progressed i found shakehand a little easier on my feet but i had to learn a backhand.

All of my experience had made me into an Allround/attack player. I'm an old guy now, i skipped the "speed glue" era and dropped out of competiton. At that time it was an advantage for the richer player to be able to "speed glue" and do multiple rubber changes <this was my reason to stop competing, i was one of the "rich players" and saw a lot of good players left behind because of this and for whatever compelled me i quit BUT that's a whole story to tell/discuss>

So fast forward to the future, i'm a recreational player with no club affiliations now and can play a variety of styles with a variety of racket/rubber combinations and this brought me to ask this question/poll as i'm always interested in people's choices. I myself only have 4 rackets now and can play each equally well except for penhold as i'm a little slower on my feet and never learnt/practiced Reversed Penhold Backhand.

Currently i prefer Jpen or SHakehand with a flared grip.

I just started JPEN practice, index finger feels really hurt, any tricks?
And if i hold the jpen handle with index finger over the rect part, switching to bh becomes slow...a

The ironic part is "they" make billions $$$ on this :)

If i'm picturing this right...why are you holding the blade that high?
I'm a one rubber player with Jpen and Chinese pen so my thumb and index meet below where the handle is joined to the blade and the other 3 fingers are spread on the  bare side....those fingers adjust more open or closed depending on the stroke i use.

I prefer flared but I really like the design of the Stiga Bengtsson straights with the rounded edge for the thumb. The great thing about the design is that anyone can do this to their own blade with some sanding.
