Since you're using the traditional Jpen, and you're using rubber on only one side, single plies seem a no-brainer to me. Until now I've used Jpen with a 5 ply blade and the vibration was  terrible. I also like the weight distribution of Single plies better.

My personal Favourites are:

Loop + Drive - Palio Thor's
Hitting + Looping - Yasaka Rakza 7 Soft

Palio Blitz and Palio Macro Era are also very good for Jpen and are under $30 (at TTNPP, of course Smile)

Didn't try short pips on Jpen yet, but I'm going to fix this soon...

Well, it's not completely bad.  But I would go for 729-5 or Palio CJ8000 Biotech anyway if I was on tight budget. 2008xp just didn't impress me at all.

The sponge thickness should start from 2 mm for Jpen looping, IMO.

lkt rapid power. dont use super tacky rubbers, they dont go well with softer 1plys (normally the mid ends one are softer in wood quality and the whole setup will turn mushy)

I'm having a hard time understanding this. The cork handle of a jpen doesn't limit wrist mobility in any way. I play with both jpen and cpen also and my wrist angles are the same. Maybe a picture?

Oh it's not the cork handle, it's the thinner handle of jpen. It's like holding a pencil versus something wider between your fingers. The wider the object is, the further back your thumb will go (flexion), so you end up with 10-15° more rotation.
