Why did you decide to go defensive?

With a completely different mindset needed for this type of game, you should also decide what kind of defense you are going to play - distance to table and the set of shots (blocking, lobbing, chopping etc). Then you can start choosing equipment.

The first thing I would try is just putting a sheet of LP on a sponge thick up to 1mm on BH side of your current blade. It can be any cheap Chinese LP like DHS Cloud and Fog III, C8, RITC 837, Dawei 388D (or 388D-40), Kokutaku 911, Palio CK 531A, CTT National Pogo...

Use very soft hand when you use BH and for first time do opposite to the move of your opponent (i.e. push/chop when he loops/drives and loop/roll when he pushes) and see what happens.  Then do the same and watch the dead balls.  When you got idea of how it works, do whatever you want and see how you like it.

If you really like this kind of play and want better control, get a decent ALL/OFF- blade, as I don't think you really want a DEF one. I have in mind Yasaka Extra and Donic Waldner Senso Carbon as very good allround blades suitable for LPs. Sword Monster King from my sig would suit you too, I guess Smile

LP stands for "Long Pips", so try them first because they are most suitable for defensive type of play - you can easily vary speed and manipulate spin with them. Let your FH rubber stay, it's OK for now and I think it would be OK for a slower blade too.

My defensive setup is currently Stiga allround Classic Tackiness Drive max 2.1, Tackiness Chop 1.9 BH
I'm more defense + when in that mode...never used LPs.

Take it one step at a time, keep your blade and FH rubber and
change your BH rubber to medium pips (1.8) and go modern defender.

Try it for a few sessions to see if it works for you.  If you go with a completely different setup, you'll get confused.

I would keep the Rakza 7 max on the FH. Since you seem to play well offensively I would not screw with what you do to much there.   I would look at getting a two speed blade like a Hallmark aurora or Giant Dragon Kris Special.   You should be able to keep most of your offensive capabilities then.
The best defense is a good offense. Don't abandon your offense altogether.

The BH defense part is more complicated. I don't think of SP, MP or even some LPs as defensive. It depends on how you use them. I think of defense as lobbing and chopping far from the table.   A lot depends on how you want to play defense.   I don't chop or lob but I play with LP and anti. I try to use them in the most offensive way I can.

You have to decide what is the best for yourself, there is no best defense combo, but if you are going to experiment I would start with Pogo 0X for blocking and hitting close to the table and Best Anti. Both are inexpensive so you can get a good idea of which way to go cheaply.

I leaned about LP by buying a 729 Bomb with Reflectoid on the FH and Pogo 0X on the back hand. It cost $40+shipping from Zeropong.
