Interesting. Why does this happen - flex bad for close to the table when paired with hard sponge?

what happens is to use the sponge the ball needs to penetrate it.... deform it.

So you need good compression between the blade and the rubber. Now the flex blades exhert that pressure only after it has flexed much.... the pressure increases proportionally with the amount of deformation (shear strain). So only when you go for a full bodies shot then the rubber will get properly squeezed to produce a predictable lift.

in short opening strokes that much of pressure(perpendicular component) is not generated. hence there is tendency of ball slippage ...going to net.

makes any sense?Confused

I see your point, thanks. I must add that it (difficulty in opening loops while using a thin blade & hard sponge) also depends on the type of equipment - I used R7 (sort of a hard sponge) and its high-ish throw helped in the opening loops (during which thin blades flex less).

you are right. however i was considering sponges that are harder than Rakza 7 like hexer HD or Aurus.

As stated several times ealier, Nexy Calix is somewhere between 4.7mm and 4.9mm... I'm not sure why any of you continue to list blades that over 5mm... unless you don't bother to actually read the thread. Ermm

tried that WUSC before but the shape doesn't fit well. Currently using T5000 and may try Calix or V1, still thinking at the moment...
